My stay at Ibis Douala was good. The quality of the services is in line with what 've paid. However, an effort should be made for a small business centre, now unavailable, but really necessary nowadays.

The quality of the Ibis brand

In a previous stay in Ibis I submitted a couple of complaints about basic aspects that had decreased in quality. This time, the second I entered the hotel, I was greeted at reception by a member of staff who told me my complaints were taken into consideration. I was surprised to hear my comments had reached them and taken so seriously. The truth is Ibis not only corrected all aspects previously mentioned but went above and beyond the expectations. After I complained about cold showers and bland repetitive food, this time I had abundant hot water (highly appreciated after long work days), delicious food and even inclusions in the menu. One particular member of staff deserves special recognition. Madame Godlife personally took care of all the aspects of my stay. I had a hectic week in Douala that involved sleeping at the hotel for a couple of days, checking out and then checking back in and she ensured everything was smoothly coordinated until the last minute. Hotel staff already know me and they are always as kind as on my first day at the hotel, however, Madame Godlife stands out for her efforts to ensure problems are solved within minutes. Sincere thanks to Godlife for making my stay in Douala easier and for reminding me why I feel at home in this hotel. A word of appreciation to the driver of the shuttle, Mr Norbert, who retires this month and who kindly rode to the airport with me despite not being working at that moment, only to say goodbye. Well done, Ibis. Looking forward to coming back soon.

No hot water

I am a regular customer of Ibis Douala and I rarely complain of anything as I find in Ibis good service, great quality and what I need which is a place to rest and work for a couple of days per month. In my last trip I arrived at midnight and I noticed there was no hot water in the shower. It was not pleasant but I figured it was an exceptional event. This time I arrived at 2 am, tired and only wanting to take a shower to go to bed. Once more I had to conform to a tepid almost cold shower. I had a different room so it is not the room. An international hotel like Ibis must be able to cover the bare minimum which is sufficient hot water (hot, not tepid or cold). Breakfast has improved but quality has declined since last year. They had placed a wonderful coffee machine and variety of food was good. Machine has been broken for months and they keep serving two or three things that have not changed in a long time. I have been in wonderful Ibis hotels around the world and I hope Ibis Douala can improve. They have one the best staff service of Douala without any doubt. They are all kind, nice and always welcoming so it is a shame that something like cold water in a shower or simply improving breakfast can make a difference. I am not willing to keep paying what a room costs in Ibis if at least the hot water issue is not solved. I have to be in Douala every month and I do not think it is too much to ask to have a decent shower.

As a regular customer of this hotel, I am disappointed to see a decrease in its quality. I stay in Ibis at least twice every 2 months but I had not returned due to covid restrictions. The restqurant has never been great. For almost 2 years I have been eating the exact same without any variation. However, they always had whatever they placed on the menu. This time I found myself eating whatever they could serve because they did not seem to have much. Breakfast was the reason why I came to this hotel the first time and I kept coming back because it was varied, fresh and just great. This time I had almost no other option but eggs, which I dont eat so my breakfast was bread with butter. Coffee machine broken. Really disappointing. Rooms still ok but I cannot understand that for this price I have to shower with cold water. First time it happens and it was not very pleasant to find out there was no hot water when I was already in the shower. Service is still great and probably the only reason why I could consider coming back but I am sincerely disappointed with what I saw.

Interesting, except on the last night when the fire alarm went off at midnight, unfortunately nobody informed the guests that it was a false alarm. Woke up in the middle of the night rushed to the stairs to find out that the guards downstairs were sitting comfortably and welcomed us smiling:"It is a false alarm"! The internet was terrible, one had to go to the bar to get a quality service.

The stay gave no real surprises (see ratings below) - it does what it says on the tin. My only surprise was the bill. My reservation clearly noted that the rooms and charges had been processed in euros on my credit card. It appears that visitors are only charged in local currency upon checking out. While there doesn't appear to be any great difference, this should be made clear when the reservation is processed.

The hotel is a short drive from the airport. Good security feature in the elevators, The food was good and the hotel staff were generally courteous. The shuttle arrangement for early morning departures must be improved as the earliest is at 7 am compelling guests to leave by taxis. Room service menus were missing.
