The Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea Beach Resort reopened its doors in 2026 following a complete renovation of its common areas and overwater villas. The property is located on the shore of a magnificent lagoon with views of the island of Tahiti. The resort comprises 110 luxurious villas built over the water, along the beach, or nestled among landscaped gardens.
The island of Moorea is just a quick 10-minute flight from the main island of Tahiti, or half an hour by ferry. Our bungalow was gorgeous with amazing views of the tourquoise water and the fish, stingrays and blacktipped sharks; all easily visible from the window in the floor of our bunglaow. We had direct access to snorkel in the lagoon from our balcony. The loaner snorkel gear was in good condition and adequate for our purposes. The living quarters include its own but bathroom, separated by sliding doors. The showers always had plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The bed and sheets were very comfortable. We dont usually order room service while we’re on vacation, but did use it several times at this resort. We were pleasantly surprised how quickly our order arrived and how fresh it was. It was an amazing experience to sit in the serenity of our private deck and have dinner.
However, we were alarmed at the price of the food and lack of alternate food options. Although the isolation of the resort property provides welcome respite from outside hustle and bustle, it also results in a food dessert. There are no restaurants or groceries available within walking distance.

Great resort, we stayed for our honeymoon in an overwater bungalow. The place had been newly refurbished and was fresh, clean and looking great. The staff were all so friendly and the facilities were fabulous. Some main meals for lunch/dinner were a little small in portion size for price and the buffet for the Saturday night Polynesian dinner and show was not worth it. The pork was so dry I couldn't eat it and I think it was lacking some wow factor on the buffet, the staff also seemed run off their feet and short staffed for such a busy night. Show was great though and overall had a fabulous stay. Shout out to Vanivae (sorry if that is spelt incorrectly), she was the host at the restaurant from about 3pm every day and she was just amazing, remembered our name and room number just by looking at us and she was always ready to have a joke and a laugh with us, it was great. She was so happy and bubbly, we loved seeing her every day. Thank you :) We also loved the gifts left in our room for arrival!

This was an absolutely beautiful hotel. The dining options are wonderful and the actives desk is extremely helpful. The rooms are beautiful and the grounds generally are as well. The coral is extremely impressive and you can snorkel for what feels like an endless amount of time. The hotel is right below a look out point that will absolutely blow your mind away. So beautiful!

The pork was so dry I couldn't eat it and I think it was lacking some wow factor on the buffet, the staff also seemed run off their feet and short staffed for such a busy night. Show was great though and overall had a fabulous stay. Shout out to Vanivae (sorry if that is spelt incorrectly), she was the host at the restaurant from about 3pm every day and she was just amazing, remembered our name and room number just by looking at us and she was always ready to have a joke and a laugh with us, it was great. She was so happy and bubbly, we loved seeing her every day. Thank you :) We also loved the gifts left in our room for arrival!

This was an absolutely beautiful hotel. The dining options are wonderful and the actives desk is extremely helpful. The rooms are beautiful and the grounds generally are as well. The coral is extremely impressive and you can snorkel for what feels like an endless amount of time. The hotel is right below a look out point that will absolutely blow your mind away. So beautiful!

We had a warm greeting upon arrival and taken to our superior overwater bungalow. There was a bottle of champagne on ice and a beautiful flower arrangement in the room. We loved the large deck and the window in the floor of the room where we could see all of the colorful fish floating by.
The staff were extremely friendly and happy to help with any questions or needs. Jacques was the best concierge we could ask for. He tended to our every little need and advised us of the best places to eat or activities to do and arranged all of it for us including restaurants and places off the resort. The breakfast buffet was awesome and had a large variety of food and drinks. This is a place we would definitely return to!

We have saved for this trip for my 50th birthday for a long time. We booked two nights at the resort to celebrate. Each morning we woke up to construction at 0700 which continued throughout the day until approximately 5pm.
For the large amount of money we paid it was so disappointing to not be able to enjoy the peaceful experience we were anticipating.
The champagne I requested to be included for my birthday did not arrive and no little birthday celebration/mention was included.
The resort was very beautiful, the bungalow was amazing but the construction noise and lack of compensation was very disappointing.

Beautiful: location; people; accommodation; water; snorkelling; experience! Cannot say enough how stunning this property is. The OWB was my bucket list trip and lived up to my expectations. Check in process was a bit clunky and not sure if the woman organizing the lobby was the manager, but she was very rude and we worried this was going to taint our experience but we let it go and enjoyed our stay very much. The morning breakfast was very good, however, the evening food options were not. I wouldn’t recommend the restaurant on site, it is highly overpriced for the quality of food.

Amazing location as the hotel sits near the reef, had a very comfortable and peaceful stay. Magnificent view from both our water villa and Vue Bar. Food at Pure Restaurant was satisfying, however, in our opinion, would be better if more seafood options were added.
Only complaint is regarding communication of accurate information towards guests.
During our first of three nights stay, we inquired about the possibility of an extension for another night (fourth night).
The receptionist informed us via the in-room phone, that our room was not available for an extension but a different category of room was, we agreed to the room change for the extension(final night). So the receptionist verbally confirmed our booking and told us he would key it into the system. Was then told to check on the rates for that room category the next morning at the Front-Desk.
Based on the verbal confirmation, we immediately cancelled our booking at a different hotel.
Following morning, went for breakfast and proceeded to the Front-Desk after. We were told all rooms were fully booked. The so called "booking" we made the night earlier was basically non-existent. We informed them we cancelled our booking at a different hotel because of the information we received from the receptionist. The only resolve given was to just put us on a waitlist.
The Front-Desk did inform us about the unavailability earlier via a typed-letter, but that letter was sent to our room while we were having breakfast. We didn't know about the letter until we were infromed about it at the Front-Desk.
From then on, multiple inquiries throughout our stay for availabilities of any room-category, for a one-night extension were unsuccessful.
Managed to get a last-minute booking at a different hotel, however in Tahiti, most hotels we wanted to stay in on Moorea were fully booked.
Wished this matter could've been handled better by the Front-Desk / Receptionist. We felt that they just brushed it off, not taking responsibility for the miscommunication of information between themselves and to us.

very well located, excellent accommodations - but PLEASE only sell REEF SAFE saunscreen! It was painful to swim around the mostly dead coral knowing thta I was contributing to it's downfall due to the sunscreen I needed to use that I bought there.
