Great pool area and very convenient location

The hotel is very conveniently located. It has a great pool area. However, rooms are a bit dated and in particular the beds would need a renewal. We had the issue that our room door did not lock. Fortunately, we recognized it as this would have been a major safety issue. The hotel reacted very good and we were moved to another room. On the second evening we could not open the safe anymore. When we informed reception they promised that someone will come to open it, however nobody came… we had to wait until the next morning. The cleaning / house keeping of the room was also not up to satisfaction. Cleanliness was not top and two times we had only three towels for four people.

The service was extremely poor and clearly discriminatory toward Asians

I am extremely disappointed with the service at this hotel. The staff showed clear discrimination towards Asians. When I accidentally left behind a valuable personal item (a Philips toothbrush worth $300–$400) in my room, I contacted the hotel asking for help locating it. Their response was dismissive and careless — they simply said “nothing was found” and abruptly hung up the phone. It’s not about the money. I simply expected a basic level of support and professionalism, but what I received was rudeness and complete disregard. As someone who travels often, I’ve stayed at many hotels, including other Novotel locations. I chose Novotel expecting consistent quality and respectful service. Instead, I was treated as if my concerns didn’t matter — and I can’t help but feel this had to do with how I look. This experience was deeply upsetting, and frankly, unacceptable. For a global hotel brand, such behavior is shocking and completely unprofessional. Unfortunately, I can only give this hotel 0 star — and I sincerely hope they reflect on how they treat their guests, especially those of Asian descent.

This is a great family hotel. The pool is great for small children. They have a small fitness room. The rooms are cleaned daily and housekeeping is very good. We highly recommend you add the breakfast to your stay. It was huge! They offer fresh fruit, warm freshly cooked eggs, bacon, vegetables, etc. Melanie greeted us with a big smile every morning when we entered the restaurant. This hotel is also within walking distance to all pier, lagoon, and shops.

Great place to stay other than the constant towel problems.

I like so much about this hotel I stayed at for 5 nights during 2 snorkel dives at the GBR and a day trip to Kuranda. This hotel was booked by my tour group so we took over about 40 rooms. You are going to have a hard time finding a better breakfast buffet. I put up some photos of just some of the items. The beach like large sand pool is a cool scene, and you can drink and dine there too. Walking distance to the GBR boats and tons of restaurants. The GBR boat docks are a 15 minute walk away--easy. The Train Station mall is also a 15 minute walk in another direction. It's a great staging location for your Cairns Trip. My room was modern contemporary and looked like it was recently refurbished with a cool walk in shower. Bed was very comfortable and room was quiet. No bar soap--only pumps. I brought my own bars. The neighborhood is relatively safe but don't be surprised if you see homeless and mentally ill wandering around Cairns--not as bad as Santa Monica but more than you would expect. Hotel staff was mainly nice. Airport was $12.00 USA Dollar by Uber--about a 15 min ride--easy. Here are the things I did not like at this hotel: 1) They are stingy on towels. They do not like to give you extra towels. One clerk quizzed me on how many people I need in the room to require an extra towel? And when they did deliver extra towels and I put them up in the closet for the next day. Housekeeping went into the closed closet and took them away before I got back and I had to call for more towels again. 2) Clean rooms, but not super clean. There were errant long hairs on the floor and bedding. Not a crisis--but this is not the Hilton--it's the Novotel--and I am Novotelling you what it was like.

We arrived at 1pm to checkin and were advised to come back at 2pm. ok checkin is 2pm but most places have some flexibility. 2pm was checkin despite being a gold member with early check in. The pool was cold - very cold. Disappointed as we booked to enjoy the swim up bar. No hot water. Shower was cold. Advised reception and maintenance was sent. We heard nothing for 2 hours. Reception wouldnt answer phone. So I went to reception and advised it whole resort problem and will be fixed tomorrow. our pool view room looked over rooftops and was next to a noisey elevator and above outdoor restaurant so it wasnt a quiet place. Very noisey in pool area with kids. I wouldnt stay here again at all
