What started off great left us truly disappointed in the end. We were traveling with our one year old and last minute they added a baby crib to our room which made sleeping accommodations much easier for us! The location of the hotel was also great since we relied on the metro for everything. They also have a water bar with 24/7 access to cold drinking water (still or sparkling) which saved us during the extreme heat wave we were caught in. The unfortunate downside to all of this is that the hotel doesn’t actually use air conditioning like they advertise. Again, we were traveling during unusually hot weather for the time of year and some nights, our room was hotter than it was outside. There’s an option for air conditioning on the system panel, but it’s somehow disabled by the hotel so you are only able to circulate the fan. My baby was drenched in sweat every night sleeping and waking up so much due to the extreme discomfort. We understand that AC is not very popular within Europe, so if it’s not an option that’s fine, just don’t go and advertise that your hotel has air conditioning when it clearly does not.

The cleanliness of the hotel was a serious issue. Additionally, the rooms felt extremely stuffy and there is a clear overall lack of proper maintenance. The carpet covering the entire floor in the room is in a truly deplorable condition. There was also an outdated hair dryer — I honestly haven’t seen such a model since the 1970s.

The hotel is well located, clean and functional. But that is it. The a/c has been turned off meaning the hotel and it’s rooms are hot, uncomfortable and far from relaxing. Paris was over 30 degrees C during our entire stay. The rooms are clean but pillows flat, towels are tiny and thin (we needed to shower morning and night due to the amount of sweating during the day and overnight). Most of the staff were friendly but generally unhelpful. I suspect they are not empowered to look after customers. No apologies were given for the lack of a/c just a daily excuse / fob off. Got offered a free drink, but couldn’t use it because it was only on certain drinks (not explained to us) and we stayed out as late and as long as possible to avoid the heat of the room. The bar was disorganised and not well managed, service was very slow, tables were dirty and the bar area had dirty glasses etc everywhere. On one night we got back to only 2 towels (there were 3 of us), got given 4 hand towels and some free chocolates…because housekeeping weren’t open. The manager seemed to disappear as soon as anyone came near the front desk to ask about the a/c. We’ve stayed in many Mercure hotels around the world, this one was a disaster and we can not recommend it to anyone. Perhaps Mercure would like to consider a refund for our horrendous experience.
