Slow Down and Indulge Under Golden Skies and Palms on Al Marjan Island
Set in Ras Al Khaimah, Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island instantly put us in island mode. Turquoise waters, soft white sands, and little luxuries like the daily Chocolate Hour make it a perfect escape for families, couples, or anyone craving a sunlit pause.
There’s a moment, somewhere between leaving Dubai’s busy skyline behind and crossing the causeway onto Al Marjan Island, when everything slows down. The roads are quiet, the sea appears on both sides, and Ras Al Khaimah starts to feel exactly like the nature getaway you didn’t know you needed. This is where mountains, mangroves, and coastlines compete quietly for your attention – and at Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island, all of this beauty comes to life.
Check in, breathe out: First impressions of Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island
Everyone has their reason for coming here – whether it’s the fresh mountain air, the private beach clubs, or the endless relaxation. As for us, we’re here for the beach: the clear water, soft white sands, and for a few days of doing very little, very well.
Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island curls along a gentle curve of private shoreline, its calm lagoon reflecting the sky like glass. The first thing we notice is the soft, ocean-breeze scent in the lobby. (It has a special name, and it’s adorably appropriate – we’ll get to that later.) It’s also paired with chilled hibiscus drinks, a refreshingly sweet welcome as we step inside.
The staff welcome us with warm smiles and make sure we can check in early – our private chalet is ready and waiting. The UAE may be known for glittering city skylines, but this tranquil corner of Ras Al Khaimah feels entirely its own.
The lobby opens straight towards the sea, framed by huge windows that make the water impossible to ignore. Sunlight pours in, and our eyes are immediately drawn to the hand-drawn murals and artworks by local designers. Every wall shares a story, making check-in feel like stepping into an elegant beach home with its own art gallery.
That light, uplifting aroma continues to waft through the air, and the hotel staff tell us it’s the resort’s signature scent, called “Moments in the Cloud.” Meanwhile, the soft coastal playlist in the common areas makes it easy to forget any sense of time. Shortly after we arrive, Mövenpick’s signature Chocolate Hour begins, with trays of warm treats waiting for guests, and we can’t resist sampling the first bite of rich, velvety chocolate.
We’re offered cool scented towels, a refreshing gesture after the heat and humidity outside. Our luggage is whisked away by the cheerful staff, who also share tips for the best golden-hour photo spots. Barefoot, we settle into the rhythm of the island, immediately aware that we’re finally in holiday mode, full stop.
Locals love: Ras Al Khaimah is all about nature. Mountains, mangroves, and quiet island beaches are just steps from the resort. The friendly staff point out the best sunrise spots and hidden coves. It's so easy to get lost in the calming nature: one minute you’re on the beach, the next you’re in your own hidden sanctuary.
About the rooms: Sea views on repeat
One of the resort’s simplest pleasures is also its best: every room here faces the water. Step onto your balcony and there it is: the gentle curve of the beach, palm trees swaying, and the lagoon glinting under the sun.
Inside, the design is breezy and bohemian: sandy neutrals, soft teal accents, timber and rattan textures, with hand-drawn prints that bring Ras Al Khaimah’s heritage to life. We opted for the private chalet for couples, but there are several family-friendly layouts that include interconnecting rooms and plenty of space.
Feed me: Breakfast in the pool, long lunches, and barefoot dinners
Food is central to the day’s flow here. Swim, eat, repeat.
In the morning, we indulge in a floating breakfast at our private chalet. We enjoy fresh pastries, tropical fruit, and local delicacies that bob around gently on a tray in the pool as the sun rises over the lagoon. It's a romantic luxury few experiences rival, and for a moment, we almost forget that the rest of the world exists.
The Beach House becomes our default lunch spot – partly for convenience, mostly because the menu is impossible to resist. Rosemary truffle fries arrive first: crispy, salty, addictive. Baked fish tacos follow, then crispy calamari with jalapeño buttermilk aioli that disappears before we’ve even passed the plates around. Buffalo chicken and fries round out one lunch, eaten slowly while we watch paddleboarders glide across the lagoon.
Dar Zellij is another lively and family-friendly option here. It’s perfect for weekend brunches and sharing plates, while Ula Beach RAK offers a softer, boho-chic vibe in the evening; think driftwood details, candlelight, and Mediterranean-inspired dishes served right on the sand.
Neo Sky Bar, meanwhile, is the rooftop star, with 360° island views. Everyone pauses here, and when the sky blushes pink and golden, the phones come out for sunset shots and selfies.
For days when staying in feels just right, the in-room dining menu has us covered – from indulgent Belgian waffles to fluffy pancakes. Personally, I find my sweet spot in the delicate Turkish-style eggs.
Menus take cues from the region, with Gulf seafood, Arabic spices, date and honey desserts, and refreshing mocktails infused with mint, pomegranate, or rose. It’s rooted in Ras Al Khaimah, but effortlessly international in appeal.
Best hotel moment: Floating breakfast in our private chalet is a moment I’ll never forget. Tropical fruits, fresh pastries, and local delicacies bob in the pool as the sun rises over the lagoon. Sitting there, coffee in hand, with the water lapping gently around us, I just know island living doesn’t get better than this.
The hero moment: Chocolate Hour for the sweet tooth
No stay at Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island is complete without the daily Chocolate Hour. We’re greeted in the afternoon by the warm, indulgent scent of melted chocolate and chilled hibiscus drinks. Trays of silky pralines, gooey caramel bites, and tiny chocolate tarts gleam under the sunlit windows. We pause to savour the moment and sample the delicate treats, each bite melting on the tongue, teasing the senses, while the chocolate lingers on fingers and in smiles – a small, decadent ritual that elevates our day.
Picture perfect: Al Marjan’s curved private beach and turquoise lagoon are impossible not to photograph. We can’t stop snapping golden-hour shots from Neo Sky Bar, Ula Beach Club, and our corner suite balcony. The way the sun glints off the water and the palms sway makes every photo feel effortlessly cinematic.
You’ll fall in love with: Pink sunset skies
Every day has its crescendo - for us, it’s the hour before sunset. We grab our towels and wander along the private beach as the lagoon glows and palms cast long shadows across the sand. Some guests head to Neo Sky Bar, others settle on the sand outside Ula, but no matter where you choose, every scene is cinematic. You’ll notice the soft waves, pink-and-gold skies, and a feeling that time has slowed.
Ras Al Khaimah itself adds extra magic. Inland, Jebel Jais rises dramatically, offering hiking trails, the world’s longest zipline, and a peek at the emirate’s rugged interior. Back on the island, we move between pools and beach, and the contrast makes the resort feel like a complete escape.
Best for: Indulgence, slow escapes, and nature lovers
By day 3, I realise that I want my own sanctuary, so I head to Citrine Spa and find exactly what I’m looking for. I start with a 75-minute Power Hyaluronic facial that refreshes and plumps my skin, before treating myself to 150 minutes of pure bliss with the Citrine Serenity Spa Experience. The Sugar Purification Exfoliation leaves my skin glowing and scented with sweet roses and sugar, the mud wrap nourishes my body, and the Bespoke Massage Therapy melts away every last trace of tension.
Between treatments, I linger in the serene atmosphere surrounded by lush greenery on the island. At this moment, I appreciate how the spa balances playful energy with moments of total calm. This is exactly what I need.
