The Fairmont Grand Del Mar was indeed grand. Our 2 night stay was perfection. From the moment we arrived, every single hotel team member was a superior level of gracious and courteous. From the parking valet to the front desk to room service and the concierge. From start to finish. As allergy sufferers hyper sensitive to dust, we at first were concerned that the carpeting and upholstery would become triggers. They were not, speaking to how well maintained the property is notwithstanding its age and size. We will be coming again.

We spent 6 lovely nights here. Our room was well appointed, a nice bed, and it was blissfully quiet, as was the adult pool. We had a room with it's own patio and firepit, highly recommend for the slightly cool, lovely evenings. Amaya had really good food, and all the staff were just wonderful. A special thanks to Steven and Michelle at the Concierge desk, and Oscar, one of the resort shuttle drivers (a nice BMW will take you to local destinations, just book ahead). The lounge bar is atmospheric with live music. Hikes from the hotel were nice. Off site restaurants were 10 - 15 minute drives, but Oscar usually took us, or Ubers were easy to get ( 6 - 9 minute waits). We would change one thing: pool drink and food service had the very strange hours of 11 am to only 3 pm. So, the drink service closes right when everyone wants to order drinks?!! The hotel is giving up a lot of revenue, and other customers at the pool did also grumble about this - many of the pool staff themselves thought noon - 4 or 5 would be much more logical. We think 5 pm, the sales 3 - 5 pm would very likely pay for pool wages many times over. But, a minor point - we would stay again!! Loved the hotel and staff.

I was upgraded to a suite, which was a wonderful surprise, especially since my partner joined me a day later to enjoy the stay together. Housekeeping and front desk responses were quick and efficient, and the staff was consistently warm and polite. On top of that, the hotel itself is absolutely beautiful. We were extremely satisfied with our experience and will definitely recommend it to our friends.

I’ve stayed at Fairmont properties before and have always loved the experience—the grounds are consistently beautiful, and there’s a level of luxury that makes each stay feel special. I also work for the company, so I truly appreciate the brand and what it stands for, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. I brought my daughter for her birthday, and it was her very first time staying at a Fairmont. I was genuinely excited to share what I’ve always known to be a memorable, elevated experience. Ahead of our stay, I made sure to notify both the hotel and the restaurant about her birthday, including specific notes about her food allergies. Everything was acknowledged, which made me feel confident that something thoughtful might be done. Unfortunately, nothing was. No acknowledgment, no small gesture—nothing that reflected the “Make Special Happen” philosophy that Fairmont is known for. It felt like a missed opportunity, especially given the advance notice and the occasion. In addition, the service overall felt below the standard I’ve come to expect. It lacked the attentiveness and warmth that typically sets Fairmont apart. This review is coming from a place of genuine appreciation for the brand, which is why the experience stood out so much—but not in the way I had hoped. I truly believe in what Fairmont can deliver, and I hope this was just an off experience rather than a reflection of a shift in standards.

Property is huge and gorgeous. We got to feed the horses. Beautiful golf course. We stayed for 4 days and didn’t get to see it all because the resort is so big. Great pool!
