Wardrobe was placed next to the bed where you can only open the wardrobe door about 30% due to proximity to the bed. Extra space in the room could be used to make shower stall and toilet stall larger for comfort. Felt cramped in the shower and toilet stalls.

I recently stayed at Mercure Kota Kinabalu and unfortunately, the experience was below expectations. The rooms are noticeably worn out, which significantly impacts overall comfort. Cleanliness also leaves a lot to be desired and does not meet the standard one would expect. The breakfast offering was rather average, with limited variety and quality that could definitely be improved. On a more positive note, the rooftop pool and bar are decent and provide a nice place to relax. The price was relatively low, which is probably the only real positive aspect of the stay. It is also not worth paying extra for a “room with a view.” Without the upgrade, you are essentially looking at a wall and neighboring room windows. With the upgrade, you may get a view of the street and a forest wall — hardly something that justifies being described as an “attractive view.” That label feels quite exaggerated. Overall, the stay was disappointing and below the level we have come to expect from Accor hotels.
