As a regular patron of this hotel, where I typically stay between 7 and 14 days at a time, I was pleased to see that the property is currently undergoing a facelift. During this visit, my father and I checked into one of the renovated rooms on the 9th floor. The room had been fully remodeled and felt much more modern and comfortable, with updated features and a spacious, cosy sofa that made the stay even more pleasant. We also enjoyed spending time at the newly refurbished pool. It was very refreshing, and the upgraded pool facilities added positively to the overall experience. On my previous trip, we did not try the local dishes at Culina Restaurant because we felt the pricing was rather high. For instance, RM68 for a bowl of Sarawak laksa seemed quite expensive, especially when compared to the laksa previously served at Puzzle, which was around RM40+. However, this time I decided to give it a try, and it turned out to be beyond expectations. The laksa was absolutely scrumptious, rich in flavour, and served with generously sized tiger prawns. It was so good that throughout my stay, I ordered it at least four times. At RM68 per bowl, it is certainly premium-priced, but in my opinion, it was worth it. Another detail I appreciated was the warm recognition upon check-in. The staff recognized both my father and me immediately, and being addressed by name rather than the generic “sir” felt much more personal, sincere, and welcoming. That said, there are a few areas I would like to highlight for improvement: 1. Limited TV channels The television in the room offered quite limited channels. We mostly watched BBC and AXN/Cinemax, with repeated programmes most of the time. Screen mirroring from Apple devices was not available, and cable connection options were also not possible. For a hotel of this standard, more flexible in-room entertainment options would be appreciated. 2. Fridge not functioning properly The fridge was not cold at all and instead became warm over time. I suspect this may be due to poor ventilation within the built-in cabinet. Unfortunately, some of our fruits spoiled as a result. 3. Night service at Culina needs better coordination The night staff at Culina were not very attentive. On 18/03 at around 10.00 pm, we called to order ice cream and asked whether there were any options other than Baskin-Robbins. The lady who answered said, “No, we only have Baskin-Robbins.” I then asked whether I could have the regular scoop ice cream sometimes served during buffets instead, but she was unable to answer and passed the call to her supervisor. The supervisor informed me that another option was available, which was Nestlé ice cream. I requested that instead of Baskin-Robbins. Since it was not listed on the menu, he said he needed to confirm the price and would call me back. Unfortunately, more than 30 minutes passed without any follow-up, so I had to call again myself. The supervisor simply replied, “I was unable to call your room.” I felt that, in such a situation, another solution could have been found, perhaps through the front desk, rather than leaving the guest waiting without any update. To avoid wasting further time, I eventually proceeded with the Baskin-Robbins order, as requesting the regular Nestlé ice cream seemed to involve an unnecessarily tedious process. I had also requested a bucket of ice. After the order was finally confirmed, it took another 30 minutes to be delivered. When the staff arrived, he brought the ice cream but forgot the bucket of ice, and had to return again with it later. Overall, the night kitchen service felt rather haphazard and disorganized. For what should have been a very simple request (ice cream doesn't require kitchen to heat up the stove!) , the entire process took about 1.5 hours. 4. Excellent laksa, with one small hygiene suggestion As mentioned, I truly enjoyed the “premium” Sarawak laksa at Culina. Compliments to the chef. My only small suggestion to the kitchen would be to please de-vein the tiger prawns for hygiene reasons. Nevertheless, overall my father and I enjoyed our stay and still look forward to returning again soon. We stay for 3 days and 2 night. Actually, we always stay here but this time the lobby was very beautiful and nice and extravagant. I am really glad bringing my wife here. We order room service, and we also like the room that they offer to us. My wife really adore the room, that been earlier refurbished by the hotel. Some more, they give us early check in, around 11.30 am. All the staff , namely Davidson and Chris vigil really helpful and hospitable . Bellman and counter staff very cheerful and responsive. 1. The shower drain was clogged. This raises concerns as to whether proper pre-use inspections are being conducted. The issue was addressed after it was reported. 2. There appears to be a malfunction in the elevator direction indicator. When going down, the external indicator was displaying “up,” which suggests a lack of monitoring or maintenance. 3. Ongoing renovations across multiple areas made the overall environment feel less comfortable and not very relaxing.
