First night was rough but second night was better!

WENDYVAN Couples - TripAdvisor review

We spent the first night in a horrible room (315) with no air conditioning. The hallways were cooler. When we went to the front desk we found our room assignment was not the room we reserved and paid for in advance. They moved us to 1001 which is the room we should have been assigned. It’s considered the “new building”. It was much better. It was unfortunate that our first night in our trip from the USA was so miserable. The second night was much better.

The Best Hotel in Oxford Perhaps!

The hotel is excellently located to many of the historic colleges in Oxford. Magdalen College is literally the opposite to the hotel. The room was very spacious for a hotel like this. Thanks to the kind staff, my room was upgraded, facing the examination school. The staff was very friendly and attentive. A perfect experience. Will definitely stay again in the future for any Oxford visit!

The hotel is well located and within short walk from all the places of interest. The room was clean, but dark. Wear slippers or keep your shoes on as the carpets are sticky, there is a reason the room is dark! Hotel restaurant, don't eat here as the food is awful. Our waiter for our evening meal was well-meaning, disorganized, and constantly confused. If it wasn't for our young waiter, the whole experience of eating food here would have been incredibly disappointing. So, thank you to that young chap, you made a awful meal unintentionally a funny experience. The music that was played in the restaurant was ear splitting awful, hi-energy euro trance dance music is not what anyone over the age of 21 want's to listen to. Advice for the hotel manager, approve the music list in advance and don't let anyone deviate away from this. The English breakfast tasted like it was cooked in the same fat as last nights meal, everything tasted the same. Scrambled eggs tasted like bacon, bacon tasted like last night fish, god only knows what happened to the tomatoes. Looking nice and tasting nice are worlds apart in this restaurant, you have been warned. Parking @ £30 a night seems a bit steep as the hotel isn't cheap. Cheaper to park in the local shopping center which is approx. a 10-15 walk through the center. I booked the hotel through a Groupon deal, including breakfast, dinner and a bottle of wine for £229.00 which is a lot of money for x1 night. My advice would be to give this deal a swerve, it no way stands up for such a spend that I would recommend.

A last minute stay in Oxford

bo80 Couples - TripAdvisor review

We decided to purchase a Wowcher deal and we were pleasantly surprised. Good points- friendly staff, good location and we were given a privilege room (we weren't told so we didn't know the drinks in the fridge were included). The room was located at the front if the hotel with a view of the main street. Nice to have windows that opened too! Not so good- it does look a bit tired and the corridors were incredibly hot! Some noise at night but we get that as location is in the center. Breakfast....if we had paid we would've been very disappointed, it was just ok. Food and drinks (coffee) not hot and poor selection of continental. It just felt a bit disappointing. If we stayed again we would eat somewhere else. Nice to have bottle of wine thrown in and able to take to the room. We had a great night in Oxford and the hotel is in a good location but is just seems a bit tired and the breakfast could do with a revamp!
