Deeply disappointing

Our stay at the Municipal Hotel was deeply disappointing and significantly affected a vacation my wife and I had been looking forward to for months. From the start, the service was subpar. Many of the staff we encountered—both in the hotel and its restaurant—were indifferent at best, unfriendly at worst, and at times outright rude. Rather than feeling welcome, we often felt like an inconvenience. For example, one afternoon at the Palm Court bar, we waited 20 minutes for service. When our order finally arrived, items were missing—likely because the waiter hadn’t bothered to write it down. We checked in for a seven-night stay and were assigned a comfortable room with a sofa and a spacious bathroom. However, after two nights, we received a call from a curt front desk staff member informing us that we had been placed in the “wrong” room and needed to move due to scheduled maintenance. We later learned that this was untrue; the floor had been reserved for an event, specifically for Paris Saint-Germain’s team ahead of a Champions League match. Had we been told the truth, we would have understood. Instead, we were misled, and when we inquired about it, the reception staff found it amusing. The new room we were moved to was noticeably inferior—smaller, lacking a sofa, and with an uncomfortably cramped bathroom. When we raised our concerns with reception, we were shown alternative rooms, but none were as comfortable as our original one. A staff member assured us that management would discuss compensation, but all we received was a single drink voucher—hardly a sufficient gesture given the disruption. This minimal effort to address the situation reflected our entire experience: the hotel doing the absolute bare minimum. PSG’s presence impacted our stay beyond the room change. The main restaurant, bar, and elevators were restricted, leaving other guests to use a small service elevator that could not be called without staff assistance. The overall organization of the hotel during this time was chaotic, reminiscent of a scene from Fawlty Towers—not what one expects from a purported five-star establishment. Given the high price of the hotel and the length of our stay, we expected far better treatment, particularly as members of Accor’s loyalty program. While the building itself is stunning, the experience was severely lacking. I cannot recommend the Municipal Hotel and will not return. Accor hotels usually uphold a much higher standard, but in this instance, they fell well short.
