Mondrian London Shoreditch 5 stars

Everything was great. Service. Food. Room. Gym. Etc

We stayed here for a weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday. While our room was nice, there were many specifics that show a lack of true 5-star design or hospitality. For example: - The bathroom light is only controllable from the entrance light panel, which means that if someone needs to use the toilet in the middle of the night, they will wake the other party up when the light goes on. The toilet does not have its own light. This is, in my opinion, poor design that shows the lack of practical concerns for guest needs. - The hotel has a rooftop pool - a big draw for a late-summer stay - and yet it was unexpectedly closed for a private event on Friday night. We should have been made aware of this prior to our stay, and certainly there should have been a discount or food/beverage comp to make up for the significant amenity gap. We had planned to spend the afternoon at the pool and this was a huge disappointment for us. Again, it comes down to expectations of a 5-star hospitality experience not being met. - The restaurant on the roof, Laurel's, was abysmal. Careless service and the food was buffet-quality at best. The front desk staff were ameniable, and the room, while not thoughtfully designed, was clean and the bed was comfortable. Overall, however, there is a big gap between the expectations of a hotel of this rating and price point and what it really delivered.

First time staying in this hotel and it was very nice. The hotel is in a good location, close to travel links and with plenty to do in the Shoreditch area. The welcome from reception was very friendly and efficient. The room was very clean, comfortable and with a great bathroom (including a steam shower). I had a great nights sleep. I had dinner in the Spanish restaurant on site. To be honest it didn't quite live up to the hype and was very expensive for what I got.

all in all very positive with one exception which is the breakfast in the bar on the rooftop. The quality of the food is good but the service very slow. The kitchen seems overwhelmed. On the 2nd morning we waited 40 minutes for the food and it did not even come in the right order. We did not get any drinks offered as compensation. Staff nice but not efficient. Otherwise very happy with the room and the other employees we encountered with (cleaning and reception)

Mondrian has beautiful rooms, restaurant with pool and terrace, lively neighborhood. A colourful mix of music bars, trendy food places, Michelin star restaurants, and even wild arcade bars are all within a 5min walk! A rich London experience away from tourist crowds and yet within casual walking distance to Tower Bridge! An amazing team of personnel makes you feel welcomed and is there for you in case of need.
