Thankfully, it was not hot, but, as Americans, we're used to having AC and we weren't comfortable. The response to this was we'll look into and providing an ineffective fan, then no follow. Overall, we had a wonderful stay at Carton house, the property is absolutely stunning, and the historical tour is very interesting. There is so much history!
We did, however, have a few issues at the carriage house restaurant, our bill was incorrect and the Server was unavailable, forgot to bring two drinks, but then charged us for them.
We also did not feel that the hotel had the same family, friendly facilities that other Fairmont have. For example, there was a very limited schedule for the pool and kids were not allowed to the hot tub.

This was our second summer family stay. I am from Ireland and live abroad. Every summer I bring the family back for a stay in Ireland and we had a nice experience in Carton House in summer 2025 (we booked under Louise Cowley then – my wife's name).
This summer was chaos with the United team staying there all of the staff were on edge and it was genuinely the first time that I have stayed at a top resort and felt like I wasn't meant to be there. On the Thursday and Friday right up until the United team left, we were regularly asked by the hotels staff if we staying at the hotel as we went about our business in the walkways, lobby, bar etc.
While I appreciate the operational scale of facilitating a high profile stay like this, you simply should not be forgetting about the guest experience for your other paying guests. I would have appreciated being given this update weeks before our stay so we could make a decision on whether we wanted to stay notwithstanding. Further, upon check-in on the Thursday 13th August, the staff member who checked us in told me that the United team had left, which was clearly not true.
Speaking of staff, while everyone is certainly pleasant, the lack of experience and training was shocking. My reading of things was a very young staff base who are trying their best but have received little to no training and certainly no supervision.
The lobby bar staff we on edge with nerves during the United days and while this improved into the rest of the weekend, I rarely saw another over the age of 25 to supervise and provide guidance. Drinks are being left on the bar counter while young staff are doing their best to run drinks to the outside sections and genuinely try their best. The bar staff need training.
The food at Kathleens kitchen and the Carriage house was fantastic and we loved the new bikes to use on the grounds. The Falconry was exceptional too which we did for the second year in a row with Carl.
Unfortunately, the overall experience was massively tainted by the staffing issues and for the amount we spent on the stay, this was not matched to a five star hotel experience.

I do recommend the hotel for a getaway from the city. The place is quiet and gorgeous.

One of the most beautiful hotels I have ever visited.
The luxury of the rooms, the exceptional quality of the service, and the outstanding food and beverages made my stay truly exceptional. The staff are extremely friendly, welcoming, and always ready to assist, 24 hours a day.
The rooms are luxurious, the restaurants are elegant, and staying in this magnificent palace, surrounded by its beautiful gardens, provides everything you need for comfort, relaxation, and enjoyment of breathtaking scenery.

Beautiful, clean, pretty much what I expected from carton house. Enjoyed the stay - the only downside would be the pricing. Almost 9€ for a pint plus a service charge is excessive. And I was left waiting for it for some time along with the gentleman beside me.
