Sharon checked us in and lovely welcome from the start. This was our 2nd time here & this time we stayed in the main house. Beautiful room & lovely views over the garden & tower in the distance. Our dinner (cod) was exceptional. & complimentary glass of wine was a nice touch(dinner slightly delayed, which we hadn’t even noticed). 5 out of 5 to staff. I would definitely come back & hopefully a bit more luck with the weather & get to play some tennis next time.

I booked my wife a two night stay in one of the presidential suits as a surprise. I did this using the suite night upgrades I received for being an All Platinum member (308103 4 … 4). I call reservation shortly before the planned visit to pay the bill. Reservations sent me a link through for the full price of the room and not the discounted price. I call them back and they quickly corrected the mistake and I was able to pay for the room. When my wife arrived on Monday 12th February to check in she was presented with the full bill, despite the fact that she was just checking in and that it had been pre-paid. I then had to call reservations again to double check that everything was ok. It was but I am very disappointed that the surprise was ruined at this point. The mood improved significantly when she got to the room which was fabulous. That evening my wife had dinner in Kathleen’s Kitchen, the only hotel restaurant that was open. It seems strange that a five star hotel doesn’t open their other restaurants to provide the level of service you would expect in a five star hotel. Breakfast the next day was also in Kathleen’s Kitchen, a change from the last time we visited. This is a major step down from the normal stately rooms that were previously used and definitely not a five star experience. The restaurant is pretty cramped and it was impossible to read a newspaper comfortably. Breakfast itself was poor, no juice offered and the poached eggs had to be sent back as they were like bricks. On checkout my wife was again presented with the full bill by a very insistent receptionist. I really don’t appreciate my wife being embarrassed and made to feel like a second class citizen in front of other guests in the hotel lobby. Your receptionist then proceeded to argue with your reservations team, saying they had made a mistake and the full bill should be paid. Eventually she had to concede but felt it appropriate to loudly call out that it was being paid using points. Notwithstanding that fact that these points have been earned by my loyalty to the All Accor brand over a long number of years, why did she feel the need to embarrass someone else. I cannot tell you how bitterly, bitterly disappointed I am.

A perfect escape

We had a lovely one night stay over mid term. We thoroughly relaxed and escaped for the weekend. Breakfast was fabulous. The bedrooms were clean and plush, we slept great! The only negative was the very cold swimming pool.
