This was a return trip to the Mercure where I stay every time I am in Birmingham. The service was great as usual in particular, Jerry at the reception desk was very helpful in sorting out my parking and any additional needs I had for my stay.

Stayed here one night for work. The room was small , comfy bed and clean. The bar area was spacious, pleasant but lacked atmosphere. I have given this a 2 star due to the appalling state of the changing rooms and the gym area … honestly I was shocked - paint coming off the walls, small changing area with rubbish lying around and a communal shower like an old school shower with no privacy. The gym was in 2 parts - small and not a nice feel about it. The pool area was ok but very dated. Honestly this hotel was strange - the bar area was like a 4 star, the room like a 3 star and the gym/ pool like a 2 star. This hotel could be nice if it invested a little in a refurbishment.
