My hubby surprised me with a spa weekend for my 40th birthday. The first time we have left our daughter overnight with nanny so I was excited and nervous at the same time. On arrival we were early and we couldn't book in until 3pm which was fine as we wanted to use the spa anyway. The staff member at the reception was very inviting and advised where we needed to go. Now the photos of Walton hall are beautiful, however be aware that you need to specifically ask for the hall rather than the hotel to be in the beautiful Manor. We walked to the spa and luckily there was a cancellation so we could book a couple of treatments (husband forgot that part haha) The staff members again were friendly and we were shown where to go. However they forgot to give us slippers or get us to fill out a consultation form for the treatment. I was advised of this during my treatment with the beautician who sorted it all out for us. She was great and the treatment was amazing. A little pricey but a nice treat definitely. I went into the changing rooms and immediately I smelt urine, it wasn't pleasant. I got changed and was very happy with the large lockers. I then tried to find the pool. Non of the doors had directions on so I tried each door. The first one being the toilets, immediately I was hit by an even stronger urine/toilet smell. They definitely couldn't have been cleaned recently. I found the other door and I walked into the pool. It's a lovely warm pool great for relaxing in. As we were early we managed to get 2 beds however as time went on and more people came in people were having to sit on the sides. Definitely not enough beds for users. The sauna was great, albeit it very small, but it was very clean and hot. The steam room was larger, very clean with an amazing eucalyptus fragrance. The dry room was being refurbished with things just chucked in there. They could have made it at least look tidy as the room had large windows you could see into from every area of the pool. I enjoyed the spa but the pool area definitely needs a bit of TLC with rotten wood around the windows, ugly green mouldy non slip mats and chunks of paint missing. We had our treatments and as I say the beautician was amazing, we could have stayed all day in that area. The upstairs was beautiful, clean with non of the issues we encountered around the pool. We then went to check in which was very easy and efficient with the older lady being very happy and smiley which was great. We booked a time at the restaurant and went to find our room. I was a little worried when we walked down the corridor as it was very dark and gloomy. But on entering our room 216 we were greeted with a lovely bright and clean room. The bathroom was spotlessly clean and we were left a happy birthday card and some free drinks in the fridge. We waited in the bar area and had some cocktails (pricey at £12) we were seated in the orangery which is lovely as you can see the garden. Our order was taken and swiftly our starters came which were delicious. However it appears we were then forgotten after 30 mins I managed to grab someone and she went to check. The food came out about 5 minutes later however part of my meal was incorrect. I advised another server , she stared at me, took the bowl of chips away. I waited for a couple minutes and thought I better start eating. The steak was absolutely delicious. However I still was missing the correct side. We finished our food and still nothing.. I called over another staff member and advised and he said I'll take the chips off the order. Bit annoying really. The same server who took the chips then collected our plates and asked if we wanted pudding. We said yes... Again we were forgotten and this server just stood around laughing with other staff. Really disappointed and my husband was upset as this was a special meal. I called another server over who could not apologise enough and made sure he looked after us the rest of the meal. If it wasn't for him it would have been a ruined meal. We slept very well. Lovely and quiet with really good black out curtains. Breakfast was a buffet. Plenty of fruit, toast, jams, fruit juices, tea, coffee etc. There was cooked food too. The bacon and sausage were very tasty but there was no fried egg, mushrooms or tomatoes etc. So all in all it was OK. I think service in the restaurant needs to be looked at and the spa definitely needs some TLC.

A pleasant stay

We stayed at the Walton Hall Hotel as part of a Groupon deal. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful countryside and the hotel building is lovely. We had a clean and comfortable double room. The staff were pleasant and accommodating. We had access to the spa as part of our deal which was quite small but it was nice for a relaxing afternoon. The food for dinner and breakfast was nice and the choice was varied. The only thing that I would say is that the hotel isn’t very well signposted and particularly as the accommodation is in different areas of the site, it can be quite confusing. Overall, it was a pleasant stay and the deal was value for money 😁

Good and bad reviews ... we had a bad experience - cost a lot and we we disappointed

Set in beautiful surroundings ... a bit if a disappointing stay, choose wisely. We checked in early evening and not even offered a smile or enjoy your stay by the 'miserable' receptionist. We were given a map of the site and told we needed to gain entrance to our room via block 6. It was an absolute maze to find our room that was on the top floor and no lifts ... all stairs and corridors! Check out the wooden post next to the bed! We finally returned to the restaurant that evening to be greeted by a member of staff who had obviously forgotten his deodorant ... that was very unpleasant especially when he was walking through the restaurant and people eating. We went to the spa the next morning to find we had to pay £10 per person to enjoy the pool/sauna etc. We paid for a luxury room and this was totally out of order ... if you stay in a spa hotel for the weekend, this should be included. We went out on Saturday afternoon and on our return we couldn't gain entry to our room ... my partner went back to reception via the maxe of corrudors and spoke to the same 'not so cheerful receptionist' and she didn't even apologise. She'd only programmed our door key for one night not 2. Trying to stay calm and relax as we were away ... After returning to the hotel after dinner in the town (9:30pm) as we couldn't book a table in the restaurant, we found we were locked out of the main building and unable to get to our room and finally gained entry through a door in a small courtyard. More lighting and signs needed ... staff no where they're going but unfortunately visitors don't! Just to add the breakfast was OK, it was self service but you had to stand and wait 5-7 mins for cooked sausages, bacon, eggs etc to be brought out. Choose wisely friends.

We stayed for 2 nights, complimentary upgrade which was brilliant. It was our 10 year wedding anniversary and we got married at Walton Hall. Was lovely to be back. Please get a jacuzzi in the Spa.

The rooms were very tired and furnishings poor. The air con didn't work (we found out it had been faulty for a long time ) it was hot weather and the windows didn't open. So we could sleep I had to force open and jam with a brick !!!! . At dinner we asked for tap water and were served a jug of brown cloudy water. !!! We had a storm one night and we were told by another guest that they had water leaking through the ceiling. We were unable to see or speak to a manager as he was always busy. We found when we got home that we had been charged twice !!!!
