keithj154 02/12/2021 TripAdvisor review

Everything about this hotel is right for a short break in Manchester, which is why this was our third booking. Location is just a short walk from great shopping, bars and restaurants and close to Piccadilly Gardens - a main transport hub for travelling further within the city. We were just twenty minutes' walk from the Christmas markets. Rooms are small and quirky but you know that before you book - I actually think that our bed was better than the much lauded Premier Inn bed and we found that there was sufficient hanging space for coats, dresses etc. Our only problem was that there was no water supply to the bathroom washbasin!! The walk-in shower was fine with plenty of pressure but that offered a bit of a messy substitute when washing hands after using the toilet or when brushing teeth. It wasn't the end of the world and it didn't spoil our visit but we were a bit disappointed that, although I reported the problem by 3pm on the day we arrived, nobody came to look into it and we weren't offered either bottled water or an opportunity to change rooms by the otherwise helpful, friendly, courteous and efficient reception staff. In mitigation, however, they were very busy at the time dealing with a lengthy queue of new arrivals. Cooked breakfast was good, fresh and plentiful - a nice bonus when we thought it was going to be "continental". Overall, we would still recommend this hotel and wouldn't hesitate to return here if we came again to Manchester for a short stay. Message to Housekeeping - please check water supply before releasing rooms!

Love the style of the hotel something that I was looking forward to and wasn't disappointed. Restaurant looked amazing but service was far from it. Parking was dreadful with no clear instructions on how to get the discount so we paid £42 for two nights!

Have stayed at this hotel on 3 previous occasions and have been extremely happy, but this time was very disappointing. The hotel is in a great position and is clean and comfortable......unfortunately this time we found the breakfast to be absolutely appalling! We arrived at breakfast with at least one hour of breakfast service to go but found the offering to be ridiculously sparse! My daughter and I hung around the buffet table waiting for supplies of sausages, bacon, hash browns but the supply was not enough. I decided to make do with a bit of cereal and a sausage and my daughter managed to get a sausage and a hash brown after a very lengthy wait (whilst stood drinking her cup of tea, as this was not possible to enjoy at our table, due to waiting for supplies). Even plates and cups were practically impossible to obtain and we had to make do with small saucer plates and small paper cups. When we asked the staff for extra supplies, we were told there were none to come. Even when we asked when the basics such as croissants and bread for toast would be brought to the buffet table, we were told there was no more coming. Not a breakfast experience we would like to repeat and not really acceptable when you have paid for a breakfast included in your room rate. We checked out of our room later and then had to go and pay for a proper breakfast elsewhere.

Nice hotel, shame about the phone bill

Hotel nice and clean but when I tried to phone the hotel reception prior to arrival via the number provided by accor website, I was left hanging on, no pick up. Made several attempts, no success. Checked my mobile. £9 extra call charges. Not good enough. Won't come again

Fun whacky budget hotel - well-located

Fun decor (particularly in the lobby and restaurant/bar) and basic room with the usual facilities and comfy bed. Could do with a bit of a primping and repair (several other reviewers mentioned mould - this in my room was isolated to and completely due to the metal window frame that attracts condensation - replace the windows and you've fixed the problem), but basically sound and I had a good stay. The restaurant was a good place to unwind after the trip and the buffet breakfast was the usual fare - would be better with bigger plates though! I would come again.

The hotel room was nice and in a great location. The bathroom was lovely & the shower was nice & easy to use. The hotel was surrounded by lots of food places and shops, which was great. Although the car parks around were quite expensive, so we parked away from that area and found somewhere cheaper. The room got quite cold at night (We stayed here in November) The room’s central heating wouldn’t work. We alerted reception about this twice who tried to fix it. They then resulted in giving us a portable heater to plug in and use which didn’t work/turn on so we were back to square one. It was also inconvenient for ubers to pick you up from outside the front of the hotel. Due to a one way system, most of the time they would pick you up from a side road or a street away. But apart from that I would stay here again. It was good for if you wanna stay somewhere for a reasonable price and in a central location.

Excellent stay in a great location. The weather theme is fun, the beds comfy, the food and drink in Jamboree is delicious. Most importantly the staff are helpful and friendly

Our 2nd 2 night stay! The hotel is ideally placed for the Xmas market/trams. Loved the new partnership (?) with Jamboree - fairly priced food and drink - fish & chips to die for! Would have been nice to know the rooms are not cleaned daily unless requested in advance. This did fit in with what appears to be a new eco friendly policy (well done!) We got over it. If the hotel had thicker walls and non-slamming doors, it would have been a fantastic stay rather than a great stay - we got over that too. Will probably go back - we'll sleep when we die.

Great location, five minutes from the station and a short walk from the town centre and theatres. Quick and simple check in, warm, good sized room with exceptionally comfy bed and smart bathroom with excellent shower. Free wifi an added bonus. The decor is quirky but smart. Breakfast was OK, but the hot items were limited and it would have been good to have had a choice of eggs, rather than just scrambled.

Having stayed in Glasgow I was so excited to stay in Manchester. How wrong I was! Hotel receptionist sneezed in front of us twice, no screen there. Corridors were full of chipped walls and ripped wallpaper. Decor of room was very poor with a very bad scheme (the weather). Room was ok, bathroom was really nice but it was poor service and damaged decor that let this place down. Plus was woken up at 430 in the morning by next door deciding to have a full on conference for an hour. Won’t be back.

Dear tracyrB5142ZM, Hope all is well with you. Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us at the Ibis Styles Hotel, Manchester Portland Street. We take tremendous pride in every aspect of our guest services. I am very disappointed to read your feedback and we take comments made, be it good or bad very seriously. Unfortunately the room deco and scheme were not to your liking, but we have always received good comments of the same. In regards to the disturbance at 4.30 in the morning, if you could have called reception as they are 24/7, they could have dealt with it. Please do give us an opportunity to discuss your stay further, kindly get in touch with myself on Khalid.sioud@accor.com Many thanks once again
