Hotel Mercure Lille Centre Vieux Lille bintang 4

We chose this hotel as we wanted to be in the old centre of Lille for a short break, and the location was indeed excellent. However, for a four star hotel the room was very basic. We knew it would be small, and there was good air conditioning and a kettle which is always a plus. But there were no drawers or even shelves on which to put clothes, simply a small cupboard with half a dozen hangers on a rail. Also there was no desk or equivalent, simply a small rickety table on wheels. The fridge had the safe balanced on top of it within a tatty cabinet with the kettle on top. And finally there were no glasses or cups in the room simply 4 paper cups , surely a health and safety issue with boiling water from a kettle, and certainly not what one would expect in a four star hotel. All in all a very disappointing room for the price we paid.

Basic rooms, paper cups in room. Bed was comfortable and room was kept clean. On check out, we were told by receptionist Last Minute.com hadn't paid for our rooms. We had booked and paid in full in September 22!!;. Receptionist wouldn't take the reference I tried to show her. Had to have an online chat with Last Minute who confirmed they had paid. After an hour of going through the online chat and showing the receptionist this and showing her our booking confirmation from Last Minute did she say all was ok!!! No apology received!!! Our friends were very upset and distressed about this including my husband and I!!! Luckily, our Eurostar was booked for the evening, so we weren't in a rush and felt like we had to pay to get away on time!! Our dealings with Last Minute leading up to this holiday had not been good either!!! We love Lille and Eurostar and will return again BUT we will NOT be staying at this hotel or using Last Minute!

We spent to nights here as we came for Braderie 2022. The location of the hotel is superb, literally - downtown. As for the room - even being small, it is excellent and surprisingly comfortable. Good choice over the breakfast, very friendly staff.

Great location, very central. Clean and comfortable. Beware that there are a few stairs to negotiate between the reception area and the lifts, not fun with luggage (who designs a hotel like this??). There is an underground car park but with a limited number of spaces so if you plan to use this make sure you arrive early to secure a space.

Mercure hotels are usually reliable, but ths one is a gem! It is in the old town, two minutes walk from Rue de Gand, where there is a huge choice of restaurants. My room, though not large, was perfect in every respect: comfortable bed, clean and bright. Two great features were the kettle and the fridge. The latter especially in summer time. Great breakfast buffet. Nice outside terrace (the the astro-turf is a bit naff!) . Maybe the very best thing about the hotel are the staff. Helpful, friendly and cheerful. Why would I go anywhere else when staying in Lille?
