Miserly penny-pinching sullied the experience

What should be a pleasant boutique hotel in a convenient location seems to have forgotten it is in the hospitality business. Any delusions of guest service are quickly dispelled at checkout when a standard request to store luggage on the day of departure is met with a demand for a €3.00 charge. Now, this is a tiny sum granted, but it's the principle. That it is (a) not an inclusive part of your room rate as at pretty much every other international hotel group, and (b) is not disclosed in advance so comes as a nasty surprise, tells you all you need to know about the attitude of management to guests. The luggage of other guests was stacked against a wall in the lobby, so not even secure. The usual "how was your stay?" was also absent, replaced at checkout with a terse "done".

We are truly sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations in all aspects and that you found the check-out process and luggage storage disappointing. Please allow us to address your comments: We charge a small fee of €1.50 per piece of luggage for storage. This policy was introduced because our space for storing luggage is very limited. In order to still offer this service to as many guests as possible – even when our storage area is at full capacity – we keep part of the luggage in a designated area right next to the reception desk. This ensures that a member of our team is always nearby and can keep an eye on the luggage. We fully understand that an additional fee may come as a surprise, especially when compared to other international hotel chains. Please rest assured that this decision was not made as a matter of principle, but rather for practical reasons and in the interest of safety and organization. Nevertheless, we take your feedback seriously and will review how we can communicate this information more clearly in advance to avoid any misunderstandings in the future. We also regret that your check-out experience felt impersonal. This certainly does not reflect our standards of hospitality and service. Please accept our sincere apologies. We will address this internally to ensure that our guests receive the warm and attentive service they rightfully expect. We sincerely hope that you will give us another opportunity to welcome you back and to demonstrate the quality and genuine hospitality of our hotel. Great location, rooms a little dated.

Location great. Clean. Nice staff. Room a little dated. One proper bedside table and another that seemed to be an adjustable bed-table from a hospital which felt very out of place in the room. The space for a fridge didn’t have a fridge in it so was just an empty cupboard.

Good stay in Berlin

Mercure Hotel Berlin Zentrum is very well positioned: it can be easily reached from Berlin Brandenburg airport by S- or R-trains plus U-bahn (metro). It is located mid-way from two metro stations (Wittembergplatz - U1, U2, U3 and Nollendorfplatz - U1, U2, U3, U4). It is also a convenient starting point to visit anything in Berlin. I had a good room with a comfortable bed. Insulation from outside noise was very good, and air conditioning was efficient although a bit noisy. The bathroom was also very good. Rooms are cleaned by default every third day of your stay. Breakfast was good, and staff were helpful.

Very friendly staff. Small room, a little outdated but good and clean. Good, firm beds, pillows rather poorly. Good, complete breakfast; if you want a warm breakfast, be early! It starts at 7:00. Good location for sightseeing. Dogfriendly!

The room no longer had a desk to work at, and a kettle was only available on request and subject to availability. Staff did not smile. Also heard from friends of their bookings during events being cancelled. Has there been a change of management? Always used to be nice and friendly here.
