When I arrived just before dinner I was greeted by name. Apparently, I was the last to check in so they had a friendly greeting ready for me. I then ordered room service which was a great burger and delivered with more happy service. When leaving the next day once again the cleaning crew greeted me in the hallway with a smile. The room was clean and comfortable for the night with great blackout curtains. When in the region for work I would happily stay there again.

Our team at Yin Yang Consultancy recently hosted a workshop at Mercure Newcastle Airport, including an intermission of pre-ordered dinner and drinks, and we were thoroughly impressed. The staff were incredibly helpful, ensuring everything ran smoothly, and the venue was of a high calibre—perfect for a professional event. The food was excellent, well-presented, and catered to various dietary needs, making for a fantastic dining experience. One of the best hotel experiences to date. I travel weekly for work throughout Australia and the service, cleanliness and staff friendliness of this hotel tops them all - including Crown Casino and other 5-star venues. Room was spotless with a very comfortable bed and the food was incredible! You would think you were feasting on pricey Melbourne cuisine, as opposed to that of a very reasonably priced airport hotel restaurant! All should aspire to this standard.

An unsatisfactory choice

As we had an early flight, we thought we would stay close to the airport. We booked before we arrived, but the check-in process was cold & dismissive. I requested a high floor with a view of the airport. We were allocated a room on the roundabout entry to the airport precinct on the 1st floor. We entered the room which had a heavy smell of cigarette smoke from the previous occupiers. The doona on the bed was thin with all the padding pushed down to the feet. The hotel was isolated & there was no ability to shop for some basics, Our experience was less than satisfactory. We requested a shuttle drop-off but were told the shuttle bus outside was not operating.

In response to your concerns, whilst we always try to accommodate guest requests, we, like other hotels, cannot guarantee them. We do not actually have rooms with a view of the airport and do not advertise as such. I'm sorry that you smelt cigarette smoke however the entire hotel is smoke-free. I find it odd that you didn't report any smell and yet gave us 4 stars for cleanliness. The same with your doona. If your room was that unsatisfactory you could only give us 1 star for your stay, you should have let Reception know so that we could room move you. In regard to the shuttle, we do not advertise this service however there are a couple of options for guests to get to the airport. We obviously can't change our location as we are an airport hotel and, in my experience, all airport hotels are isolated to some extent. In comparison, I'd say you'd be hard pressed to find any shops near Sydney Airport. Everything we have available and that we can offer is on our website. May I suggest if you were looking for all of the things you say we didn't deliver, you perhaps should conduct more research before you book. Thank you for your comments. Kind regards
