Wishing to use up Accor credits and being near to the rail link we chose the Mercure Makkasan for a night. In the end we used Bolt to get to BKK early the next morning. The property is on a very busy road, with no pavement so I wouldn’t advise walking here after dusk. Check-in was functional but not especially welcoming. I had emailed the property twice to ask about the Lounge facilitates before booking a club room but heard nothing back, which seems to be the way of Accor properties these days. We had a Privilege Room but I would say space was a little tight for 2 of us and our luggage. I liked overlooking the railways and the sound proofing was excellent. The room was fairly clean. Sadly the shower either was freezing cold or scalding hot. As we had dinner and drinks plans elsewhere we didn’t use the restaurant but on our return we went to use my Gold vouchers at the pool bar. The staff were practically hiding from a very loud and drunk chap and his various ‘girlfriends’. They were loud, obnoxious and scared off any other guests. We could hear them many floors above. Security was nowhere to be seen. We were checking out at 0500 and happy to do so. As my title says it was mediocre. We wouldn’t stay again in a city where great hotels are aplenty! And my status with Accor won’t be renewed!
