The room had amazing views and you could see that the hotel staff were trying hard to make the stay good but the fabric of the hotel is poor and some basics are poor.

Good location/excellent staff, shabby/dirty room

Very friendly, helpful and professional staff in both hotel and health suite. Very disappointed with the very low level of cleanliness (tomatoe sauce on bathroom door, dirty towels, shabby/creased bedding, peddle bin with rusty lever hanging off. Would not recommend to family/friends

Well located for the the town "beach .

Stayed here on the 28th for 2nights where we had a problem with our door got locked in when the handle came off which was sorted quickly our next stay the following weekend we were locked out our room twice again problems with the key after several times running down to reception with them changing cards & myself & my friend who has mobility problems was left holding onto wall for support while this was getting fixed after eventually realising it needed a new lock after about half an hour got into room just in time for us to get a quick freshen up to go next door for dinner on our return couldn’t get into room again I ran down to reception again where I was told a new lock had been fitted & we would need new cards no apologies for any of this also our bathroom door didn’t close which we reported & still was not fixed during our stay on checking out hearing the staff asking guests if everything was fine for their stay & when it came to us we were just told where to place our key cards I would expect to get treated & shown the same courtesy as other guests I recommend this hotel to others with my friends booking to stay later this month I’m just hoping they have a better stay than we did been staying here for 15 years been at Xmas party nights year after year & staying about another 3 times through out the year this has definitely been our worst stay .

Hi service was great , staff very helpful. Just one last thing I didnt mention when I checked out but our control in our shower fell off and fell onto my foot bruising but nothing broke . Maybe this should be checked properly and fixed to avoid it happening again.

The hotel rooms are badly in need of some repair, redecoration and refurb but in these cash strapped times, it’s understandable that funds aren’t available for anything that isn’t essential. The bar and bistro are very nice. Dinner was delicious, served by Lewis, who is a credit to the team. He was pleasant and efficient. Breakfast service style, options and presentation needs updating but breakfast is rarely given the attention that evening service gets. No extra sales or profit to be made there, but it is the last impression of the hotel, so should be just as important. We didn’t bother with breakfast on the second morning. The tall man in the ill fitting mis-matched ‘suit’, I took to be the restaurant manager, was too busy strutting and sweeping through the bistro to see things that needed done right under his nose. All other staff - from front desk to housekeeping - were a delight to deal with. Our lack of info re how the linked lighting and the coffee machine were operated (I understand that unnecessary in-room printed info has been removed for H &S) meant that the lovely maintenance chap had to make 2 trips to our room. Thank you for not calling us a pair of idiots - to our face! We loved - the food at dinner, the spacious privilege room that we upgraded to, the lovely views, the sofa, the super comfy bed, the coffee machine and a great TV to watch the tennis on at night. One very serious criticism - the bath/shower. With a very wide, fixed, glass screen at the shower/taps end of the bath, it is impossible to reach the taps from outside the bath. You have to climb in, turn them on and adjust while standing in the bath. If you want a bath instead of a shower, you need to climb out again until it fills. There are only the 2 little side handles that are standard on all baths and nothing else to hold onto when getting in or out of what is quite a high sided bath. I am fit and able, but had surgery on one hand recently, and was concerned that if I slipped there was nothing to grab hold of to steady myself. An elderly or infirm guest would have to do what I did and wash at the sink. Please consider the design and safety aspects of this. We had a very enjoyable, good value 2 night break. It was our 2nd visit to this hotel and we definitely will return, but I will shower just before I leave home next time!!

Let's do the positive bits first - the sole member of staff that I saw was quite frankly a credit to this hotel and the Mercure/Accor chain. Your people are your best asset and this is no exception. The bad bits... Reception area looks tired and dated. Hotel communal areas are tired and dated. Bedroom was tired and dated - wallpaper peeling off the wall or small bits missing, paint chipped absolutely everywhere, decor quite frankly needs updating, and the windows or at minimum the window seals need replacing! Ayr is on the coast, so it gets a continual barrage of wind and even on a moderate wind night (30-35mph winds - I checked), the noise of the wind bypassing the missing and badly fitting seals left me with just 4 hours of broken sleep out of the 9 that I was trying to be asleep in bed. If it wasn't for the fact that the lady on reception was so nice, and the fact that I'd relaxed with 2 beers, I'd have asked for a refund and left during the night! (Drink/Drive alcohol limit is lower in Scotland than England/Wales by the way). I basically had no choice but to stay. Will definitely not stay again until they renovate the hotel... Including new glazing.
