symos2019 17/04/2021 TripAdvisor review

Excellent resort and staff. After the rains, K'gari (Fraser Island) is recovering quickly from the fires, helping visitors recovering from COVID19 lockdowns. We thoroughly enjoyed the walks and bus tour. The new interpretive centre (opened in March 2021) is fantastic: great work by Kingfisher Resort, USQ and Butchulla people.

Dear symos2019, Thank you so much for taking the time to post with 5 little green circles! We are thrilled to be open for business and are committed to providing quality and educational experiences to our guests through the education and knowledge of Fraser Island. We are so pleased you enjoyed the centre, time with us, tour and will be sure to share your kind words with our partners and the team. All the best from all of us here at Kingfisher Bay Resort.

The location of this resort is unique and idyllic, but its return to being a functioning resort still leaves much to be desired. From reception on the mainland to returning to collect cars three days later, there was constant sense of dis-organisation.

Very relaxing

JohnF388 25/07/2020 TripAdvisor review

Our trip with friends was very enjoyable, unfortunately the resort had small numbers which meant that most of the venues were closed. However what was open was terrific. Quality of food was mostly very good. Service was fair with one or two staff not on top of their game. The activities with Ranger Kaylee were informative and entertaining. She was the highlight of our visit.

Gorgeous location, friendly staff, we enjoyed every minute.

Corkerfamilythree Family - 21/01/2020 TripAdvisor review

From the moment we stepped on to the ferry we felt welcomed by the lovely staff, Fraser Island is a must see, so naturally beautiful. The resort is just lovely, lots of choices of restaurants, we loved the Sunset bar where you can grab a beanbag and a cocktail and take in the view from the beach! A great spot for kids, lovely pools and lots of activities on offer too.

Dear Corkerfamilythree, We are thrilled to hear that we impressed during you recent stay. Its wonderful to hear you enjoyed your dining, took advantage of the many activities on offer, got to explore the island and take in the natural beauty and tranquil surrounds. We also trust you experienced a not to be missed Fraser Island sunset whilst relaxing with that cocktail, such a special experience! Thanks so much for the 5 little green circles, we hope to welcome you back again one day soon.

Great place and great location. Rooms are very clean but on basic side. Views from balconies are nothing special but it gives you a space if the weather is ordinary at sunset, otherwise you should head down to the beach with some cheese and wine (byo) and sit on the beach. Amazing. Meals in restaurants are ok but you wouldn't go there for the gourmet experience.

Good facilities with access to miles of beaches, rain forest, and wild life. Comfortable rooms, nice restaurants and bars. Perfect place to relax or be adventurous. The light aircraft trip available from 75 mile beach was excellent value.

We stayed 9 nights and really enjoyed the resort and the island. The bushwalking is good, the beaches are beautiful and it was great to put our feet up an unwind. Can't understand why you'd only stay an afternoon or overnight in this beautiful spot.

Nice place and good hotel

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this resort. The staff were professional, but also friendly and attentive. The resort and facilities were well designed and conducive to relaxing, and the natural beauty of the surrounds was breathtaking. Getting to and from the island was organised for us and helped to make the entire experience most pleasurable.

Dear Quenby212, Thank you so much for the 5 star review! We are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and have ensured your comments have been shared with the team. We at Kingfisher Bay Resort hope to see you back on Fraser Island in the near future.

Seabelle Restaurant was just superb, the food varied and the combinations of flavours was excellent. Although the head chef was away the two Assistant Chefs we of a high standard . Towels not drying in the bathroom was the only issue we found. Staff were all lovely and we enjoyed our 7 night holiday.

Dissapointment

The last time we visited Kingfisher Bay Resort was in 2002 - prior to that date we were regular visitors, mainly as day trippers from Hervey Bay to indulge in the seafood smorgasbord - although we did stay at the resort a few times. We realise that the resort is 25 years old and is a high maintenance venue - we saw deterioration in many areas. There seemed to be a fairly high percentage of Staff who were trainees and the quality of food was not as it was. Rooms were clean but we have to say we were disappointed!!!

Our favourite resort

ShaDaveLouis Family - 31/03/2017 TripAdvisor review

The kingfisher is our favourite resort in Australia. We've been 5 times now, with our son at various ages and there's always so much for us and him to do. The buffet breakfast is lovely and we love to sit by the pool area to eat. Our room was peaceful nestled in the trees overlooking the lake area. Top tip: Our favourite spot is sunset at the jetty hut. You can't beat it. Our only improvements would be that our check-in was late (after 4pm) which was unusual in our previous experience. Also, we felt the sandbar is looking very tired now & is in need of a facelift.

Great place, and I'd definitely go again.

fergsnz Couples - 30/07/2016 TripAdvisor review

Kingfisher Bay Resort is a fantastic place to go for a bit of R&R, or for a bit of adventure. I'd highly recommend the day-long Beauty Spots tour. Martin was our driver and he was an exceptional guide, explaining all the history of the island, the geology, the people, the wildlife; and he did all of this while skilfully manoeuvring an insane 400 hp 4WD bus through extremely narrow sandy tracks. It was surreal in parts. The trip included visiting Lake McKenzie (crystal clear waters and white sand), the wreck of the Maheno, Eurong (the resort on the eastern side of the island), a sand blow, cliffs of coloured sand, a wild dingo, a pod of excited whales, and an exciting 80 km/h + journey down the beach. This is an absolute must for anyone visiting the island. It is also an absolute must to go to the Sand Bar and indulge in late afternoon cocktails, while watching the sun set over Hervey Bay. The cocktails are very moreish and reasonably priced. As for the food, we ate at the Maheno Restaurant, and didn't quite get around to going to Sea Belle (largely due to the cocktails at the Sand Bar). The Maheno Restaurant was great, and our waiter Simon was a particularly friendly and nice guy. I'd certainly recommend Kingfisher Bay Resort to anyone looking to get away to a beautiful island. Apparently there is a pretty long rainy season there though, so be careful when you book.

Thanks for the fantastic five star review and recommendation fergsnz! We love seeing our New Zealand neighbours out and about discovering Fraser Island and it sounds like you took every opportunity to do just that while you were with us. Like anywhere, of course we get rain on the island but there is no particular “wet season”, with weather reflective of that of mainland Hervey Bay. Either way, sunshine or rain, we have you covered with tours running regardless and plenty of daily activities available at Kingfisher Bay Resort. On behalf of Martin, Simon and all the team, we very much look forward to welcoming you back again soon and wish you all the best for the rest of your Aussie adventures while you are here!

Don't stay at Kingfisher Bay Resort if you are looking for a raging night life and manicured gardens because this is a place to share with nature. The service is super friendly and all staff seem to go out of their way to always give a cheery greeting and a broad smile when ever you meet them. Kingfisher Bay is for relaxation and walking. It is a place to discover nature

The staff at Mercure Kingfisher Bay Resort Fraser Island were wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I am have Coeliacs and the chef came out to go through what I could eat and I was able to choose lovey tasting and interesting gluten free food. Our room had a fabulous view and the set up of the resort made it easy to access what you needed. We will be back for a longer stay next time.

it was the perfect holiday. The friendly reservation staff were so helpful and patient in guiding us through the necessary barge & permit requirements. It all flowed seamlessly. The rooms were spotless & the staff amazing. The resort and facilities were outstanding, even providing a high pressure wash for the 4WD. We can't wait to go back again.

It is definitely in need of upgrades in the rooms especially the tiles and bathrooms. Service in the restaurants was slow even when we were the only people there. Food was very overpriced for what was very average pub meals. Was very disappointing to see the slip in standard, I stayed here 3 years ago and was thoroughly impressed with the standard.

Dear jjbarr87. Thank you for posting a review following your most recent stay - we really enjoy seeing return guests and appreciate your loyalty. Please accept our sincere apologies that your time with us on this occasion has failed to impress. We value candid feedback such as yours as it allows us to make improvements to our products and services and would like to assure you we are listening to recent guest comments and working hard to make positive changes in our restaurant. Jasp99 Couples - 28/08/2015 TripAdvisor review

The shuttle service provided treats you as a tour party rather than an individual, leading you past Reception and through the hotel before handing out the keys to the group; it does provide a distraction for any bored guests lounging in the bar area though. The rooms have a spare bed, which for most people staying on the resort was unnecesary and made a reasonable sized room small. Noise from adjoining rooms can be distracting as there are adjoining room doors on both sides of the room and you can hear everything your neighbours are saying. We thought the bathroom had not be cleaned properly as the was a long hair on the floor but discovered that was due to the out-flow water from the shower bubbling up out of the drain in the floor, which also caused the bathroom floor to be wet after every shower. The bathroom also had an interesting feature of a large plain glass window facing out to the walkway, although you cannot be seen it is a little disconcerting when sitting on the toilet. The towels were thin, worn and grey. The walkways to the rooms were probably great when first built but look a little tired and grubby now. The view from some rooms are probably great (if you have a sea view) but others (including ours) is of scrub and (in our case) the laundry. There was no room service, because of the amount of guests staying one night an additional take away service was arranged (as restaurant was fully booked), there is a large Bistro being on site but only open on Fridays and Saturdays. Food was nothing special and not cheap. It was not the standard expected from a Mercure hotel and looks like it is time to spend some money on it, time to think of the customer than maximum profit.

Dear Jasp99 Thank you for taking the time to post a review. Please accept our sincere apologies that your stay has failed to impress. Our Assistant Resort Manager, Corey would like to invite you to contact him at asst_resortmgr@kingfisherbay (please mention this review title) so he can identify the room you stayed in and personally address your specific feedback.

We went over on the ferry and left our car on the mainland. I think the process for booking the ferry and parking should have been explained to us at the time of booking. The resort is excellent very laid back and staff friendly and helpful. The ranger guided tours are a great introduction to the resort and the island. I just wish we had more time there.

Dear Julie B Thank you for your 4 star review and great feedback about our staff and ranger guided tours. We apologise that some information was not relayed to you at the time you made your booking and have passed your comments onto our Reservations Manager to ensure these processes are explained to future guests. From all of us here at Kingfisher Bay Resort – Fraser Island, we look forward to seeing you back again very soon.
