We recently (9 and 10 October) stayed at Mantra Hervey Bay for two nights to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday. We paid $1,048 for a two-bedroom apartment with an additional room, expecting a comfortable and memorable family weekend. Knowing that my mother has mobility difficulties, I called on Monday 5 October to confirm the arrangements. I was told it was fortunate I had called, as the rooms had not yet been allocated, and that a room with a walk-in shower could be arranged. Having not received confirmation, I called again on Wednesday, only to be told that a walk-in shower was no longer possible unless we booked another room at an additional cost of $480. When I asked whether a discount could be offered, I was told this was already the discounted rate. I felt backed into a corner. We were trying to make a special birthday celebration comfortable and accessible for my mother, and suddenly faced a substantial additional expense for something I had been led to believe could be accommodated. After discussing it with Mum, she insisted that we shouldn’t spend another $480 just so she could have a suitable shower. It was disappointing that she even had to worry about this during her birthday celebrations. Unfortunately, Mum was involved in a minor car accident on the way to Hervey Bay, delaying her arrival until Saturday morning. I was subsequently advised that we would only need to pay half the additional sea room charge because the room had gone unused. While I appreciated this adjustment, the entire process involved numerous telephone calls, missed calls and uncertainty. I always made an effort to return calls and resolve the situation. What should have been a straightforward and enjoyable family celebration became unnecessarily stressful. We weren’t seeking special treatment, just reasonable assistance in accommodating an elderly guest celebrating a milestone birthday. The most disappointing aspect wasn’t simply the additional cost, but the inconsistent information and lack of a practical, customer-focused solution - it seemed the shift manager was the one making the calls. An 80th birthday is a special occasion, and unfortunately this experience left a bad taste in our mouths and put a real dampener on what should have been a wonderful weekend.

I was given my cards to get into my room. On the first occasion they did not work. I went down to reception and they reissued me with new cards. The cards worked this time but to my surprise and the other gentleman's, when I opened the door to my room, the room had already been allocated and the person was inside the room. To me this sort of thing should not happen. I was then allocated another room that in my opinion was not as large, from what I briefly saw when I opened the door to my original allocated room.

As a Platinum member I asked for early check in , that was not available. I asked for a 1 pm check out to allow us to shower after a snorkel trip, they offered 12 pm , I explained that trip did not get back till then, but the reply was ridged

We enjoyed staying in the 2 +1 bedroom apartment. Although the furniture was dated and the pillows needed modernizing, the view was lovely, and the appliances all worked well. The single hotel room was very cramped - no full length mirror, and just enough space to fit in a bed. The pillows were from another century - they seemed to be really old and quite un-fluffy. It was convenient to have a lift to the 6th floor, and the housekeeping staff member was very pleasant and helpful. The car park was secure, which was a relief, especially because we are on a long trip.

Overall stay very enjoyable however at reception staff on arrival quite rude to the couple we travelled with which was not a good start to a very well earned 3 x day break to us all re Business commitments & we are in the same industry.

Wonderful little getaway for my birthday. Comfortable bedding. My hotel room was clean and had a great view of the marina. Quiet scenic location.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the location was amazing. We had a marina view room which was a little noisy first thing in the morning due to the whale watching boats. The rooms are feeling dated and in need of a refresh. However, this is definitely not a 4 star hotel, maybe a 3 at best compared to other hotels we have stayed in during our travels. We had the following issues: 1) Ants in the room that the staff had to spray and clear on 2 of the 3 nights we stayed. 2) At 3.30am this morning rude wakeup with a cockroach climbing across my husband. 3) no room service for the entire 3 days we stayed.

We engage professional pest control services on a regular basis and take preventative measures to minimise the presence of pests. However, being in a tropical location close to the marina and surrounded by a natural environment, it can be difficult to prevent their occurrence 100% of the time. Nevertheless, we understand the discomfort this caused and appreciate you bringing it to our attention. We also appreciate your comments regarding the condition of the rooms and understand that expectations can vary based on individual travel experiences. Your feedback is valuable to us as we continue to review and improve our facilities. We would also like to clarify that our property operates as a self-contained hotel rather than a full-service hotel. As such, we do not provide daily room servicing for stays of fewer than 8 nights. This is part of our accommodation model. Thank you again for your feedback.
