Room walls crumbling, wall paper falling off, bed damaged, shower gel empty. As a gold member ofnAcornyhis is by far the worse stay I have had in over 10 years

Ideal location

Room clean and comfortable, bathroom had been refurbished and was excellent. However felt the carpets needed replacing. Bed was comfortable and had a good nights sleep. Unfortunately the taxi we had booked for the cruise port Saturday morning had somehow been cancelled, however Michael saved the day by booking us a taxi via his Uber so thank you for that.

2nd Aug breakfast, the lady who work in there was Very rude. I've found a small black insect came from the milk container. I've tried to show her and ask her to change the new one . But she just ask me to get another bowl and pour the milk again. If she has past food and hygiene level 2. She should know the milk in that container is already pollution by that small insect. After I showed her ,how can she ask me to take again. Then I ask her to change the container because I need the clean one for my kids . And she became impatient , take the big container behind the bar , I was think finally she gonna change the milk , after 5 mins nothing came . Then a gentleman ask her to top up the milk , I just saw her take another smaller jug behind the bar and take the milk from there . So for me she just hide the big container behind the bar ,and change another small jug to get the milk still from the pollutioned big container. The next morning I just buy a bottle of milk from Tesco.

Lovely room, shame about the noise outside

We had a one night stay here as part of our honeymoon, they upgraded our room and gave us one with a four poster bed which was a lovely touch. However this meant we were at the front of the hotel which is a busy street with restaurants and clubs meaning there was noise throughout the night. I know the building is old which might restrict the types of windows you can have but it may be worth making guests aware when booking so light sleepers (like my husband) can choose a room further away.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at your Southampton Hotel The Dolphin. I'm not really sure where to start, the hotel is nothing more than a budget hotel at very best and we paid £177.00 per night, on arrival into the Reception we were quite pleased, we then went to room 127, oh my god is all I can say, I was actually in shock I had to sit on the bed, so claustrophobic and the smallest room I have ever seen.  It was my birthday weekend and was instantly upset about the size and condition, we did book a standard double but this was taking the mick, there were holes in the wall as seen attached file.  My fiance not liking me being upset went to reception where he said we want to be moved or have a full refund and we would go elsewhere, we were moved to room 16 which we were told was the biggest standard double available.  It was alot bigger but so so tired chipped paint everywhere, and still not worthy of the price tag, it was boiling hot so we quickly unpacked and went straight out, on returning in the evening, we opened the windows to let some air in, it was unbearably hot, the pathetic excuse for a fan was not worth turning on and when we did it made clonking noises and at one point came off the spindle.  We had to sleep with the door open and keep the fire exit open to let air in but this also meant that hundreds of flies we seemed to be by the laundry room so that came with noise from 7am.  Got up first morning to find no toiletries in the bathroom, so my fiance went to shop to buy our own, shower had a mind of its own and completely soaked the bathroom floor when turning it on.  Couldn't get dressed without getting boiling hot again, so didn't hang around any day just went straight out.  Second morning put the out exploring sign out for room to be cleaned and towels changed, came back again in the evening to find nothing had been done and the towels were soaking wet on bathroom floor, went to go to reception to find out what was going on and noticed the cupboard near us had the towels I  so helped myself, complained at reception  and was told the cleaners are useless and unless requested at reception they don't get done, she even had toilet roll under the counter so this is obviously a ongoing issue.  We couldn't stay in room any longer than we had to as it was so uncomfortable. We had a lovely time in and around Southampton but the hotel was an absolute disgrace, we are from the Hospitality Sector and have stayed in better staff accommodation than this.  Reading TripAdvisor we are not the first to complain and sure as hell won't be the last unless you do something about it.  Paying over 500 pound for our stay was not even worth 150, would of rather got a refund and stayed in a tent that's how bad it was.

Dear Katie, Thank you for your feedback and please accept my apologies for what you experienced. We are continuously improving and your comments are invaluable in the process.
