To the Accor Group Management, I am writing to express my disgust and disappointment regarding my recent stay at the Pullman Shanghai Xuhui. Without exaggeration, this was the worst 5-star hotel experience I have ever had, plagued by failing facilities, unacceptable hygiene, and untrained staff. The nightmare began on my very first night here. The bathtub drain in my room was broken and would not drain. I called the front desk for help, and a member of the engineering team eventually showed up, only to tell me I had to wait for about 20 minutes at midnight while they went to find the proper tools to fix it. Despite this disruption to my rest, the hotel management offered zero compensation or meaningful apology for the unpleasant experience. Unfortunately, that was only the beginning. The room’s AC failed to dehumidify the space, leaving the air uncomfortably damp. Worse, my pillows were visibly moldy. When I requested replacements, a staff member refused to replace the actual pillows and only brought new pillowcases. Unbelievably, they dropped the clean cases on the floor and proceeded to put them on the moldy pillows anyway, without a single apology. This level of service is absolutely ridiculous for a supposedly 5-star establishment. I frequently stay with Marriott, Hilton, and other major global brands, and I have never encountered a property nearly as bad as this one.I frequently stay with Marriott and Hilton, and I have never encountered service this abysmal. To cap it off, while checking out, I overheard another guest complaining about a broken showerhead—clearly, my experience was not an isolated incident. The room is spacious and bright. Eric and Leo at the front desk were extremely thoughtful and welcoming during check-in. However, other front desk staff lacked enthusiasm and consideration for guests; they seemed reluctant whenever requests were made, giving the impression they were unhappy with their jobs. I had purchased Executive Lounge access and asked Daisy at the front desk to activate elevator access to the 26th floor, yet my key card failed to reach that floor after activation. I returned to the front desk to fix the issue, and another female staff member claimed part of the card had demagnetized — even though it still unlocked my guestroom door. I find this explanation baffling, as a key card cannot become partially demagnetized. Needing to ship some loose belongings, I asked both the front desk and concierge for two used cardboard boxes, only to receive an outright refusal from both sides, without any attempt to check with other departments for availability. The attendants working in the Executive Lounge provided good service, but the food quality was subpar. Even basic drinks like soda water were unavailable, let alone Perrier or Evian. As a Gold Member with seven years of membership history, I am quite disappointed with this experience. The Executive Lounge only opens during afternoon tea and Happy Hour. Guests cannot get coffee or plain water there outside these hours, which falls far short of the standard expected for an Executive Lounge at a hotel of this caliber.
