The room and location of the hotel were fantastic. It was quiet and centrally located to the esplanade (while staying back from the main row). It was easy to get to and from work. The only issue was significant problems with the Wifi on my second day. The first day worked fine- but the staff informed me there had been some resets on the second day (Tuesday 3 Nov). I was never able to connect again for the remainder of my stay - on my phone or on the 2 laptops I use for work. I talked with them again after trying - but they said it should be coming back.

We did not learn that the restaurant and bar were unavailable for our stay until a few days ahead. This had a major impact on our assessment of the hotel. The WIFI was also terrible.

My Sister was in room 212. All she was able to hear, upon returning for the night, was running water from elsewhere in the building. The Night Manager moved her across the hallway, and in that room the air conditioner wasn't working. This may be expected in a "back blocks" establishment, but certainly not at the Mercure! My sister had virtually no sleep on saturday night.

Had a very good three night stay.Good check in, friendly and helpful reception staff, great comfortable bed and bathroom with rain shower and spa bath. Good location.
