I loved it. I was only here for a night. I liked all aspects of the hotel, the check-in was quick and efficient. I liked the room, very spacious and tastily furnished. I did not eat in the restaurant as I'd eaten on the way but breakfast the next morning was nice. The hotel has a relaxed atmosphere, well positioned in the town. I used the gym and had a very nice swim before bed.

Torn bed sheet. Towels that were way past their best. Tight parking. Lucky to notice a £128 erroneous charge on my Amex bill which I had to request them to refund.

I phoned and booked on the same day as I wished to stay, the lady on reception was very helpful and made the whole experience a very pleasant. I thought it was odd having to pay for the New Years Celebration with one payment and our stay on the 1st January on another payment. Our friends Mrs and Mrs Alcock and Mr and Mrs Wooley who were staying an extra night on the 31st December had to pay on three separate transactions. We didn’t realise that each day was in your eyes, a separate booking, and as we didn’t ‘check out’ each morning we were all locked out of our rooms meaning a trip back down stairs to reception to get our door cards re-set. Our group has over the last 15 years visited a different city every New Year, some have been great, some have just been ok, however yours was the first where we were only allowed one glass of prosecco before going in to dinner. Also your hotel was the first not to serve canapés. We were kept waiting in a draughty lobby for half an hour longer than we were told, we later learned because some adjustment had to be made to the seating arrangements. The meal itself was absolutely fine, but why did it take 3 hours to serve? I hope you didn’t pay too much for the disco as he didn’t start playing any music until prompted by my fellow guest at around 11pm. Also at 12 oclock, well actually at about 11:57 he didn’t play the big ben chimes like every other New Years Evening we have been to. You have a lovely modern hotel. It is warm and comfortable. The rooms are very nice, the bathroom excellent. All the staff we spoke too were polite and friendly. However the organisation was poor. Also my name is R.J.W. , not Mr S.. Please will you get my Accor card amended, my number is 30…44B5

My wife and I have stayed many times over the years at the Southgate Hotel (we are LeClub/Accor members) and have always enjoyed the experience until our last visit. We make a point of always booking privilege rooms when we stay but on this occasion the privilege room allocated to us Rm241 fell way below the normal standard for this class of room. The room was smaller than normal, the wardrobe had only a few hangers ( had to request more) and the bathroom had no heating as well as the towel rail was cold. The staff ( housekeeping, breakfast, reception and bar) all excellent as always - but due to the poor room allocated it spoiled our visit. We shall have to reconsider whether we return to the Southgate again.

My recent stay was only a brief one but as always I can say that the room was, typically, comfortable, clean and quiet; though it could have been a touch warmer. The Bar was, as previously, reasonably priced and with a decent selection of beers though the wine list is restricted. My morning breakfast was both well stocked and with more than enough in terms of choice, quantity and quality. At Accor, I find you get what you pay for and I have rarely been disappointed.

I had a lovely but brief stay. When I checked in the receptionist informed me I had been upgraded to a suite which was lovely. The receptionist was also very helpful on check in. I also really appreciated the option of a take out breakfast as I needed to get to a meeting and don't always want to eat breakfast alone when travelling by myself with work. I will definitely stay here again if in Exeter.

I was given a ground floor room (16) this visit. First time I have stayed on the ground floor. Room was noisy as no double glazing and right by the car park. There was a drains smell in the bathroom. The curtain was falling off the rail, the room just had a tatty feel about it. First time I have felt this when staying with you.

Very smooth check in with Louis , who very kindly gave us a 4pm late check out. I mentioned that I would need a taxi at 0730 to go to Exeter St Davids the following morning and he said he could arrange that for me.However the next morning my taxi failed to turn up and the lady on reception could not find any details of my taxi being ordered.It was only because of the generosity of another guest who was waiting for a taxi he had booked that I was able to share his cab and get to the station in time.

Relaxing and reception staff exceptionally helpful and professional Gym staff excellent and overall facilities superb clean and well maintained . Breakfast on my second morning was a lot less enjoyable than the day before ,and every time myself and accompanying collegues asked for something it seemed as if the lad just couldn’t be bothered to help Short staffed was the excuse given to me by the chap trying to deal with everything No coffee or tea offered ,no sauces out at all ,no fresh bread loaves to hand cut were available and fruit selection wasn’t topped up Overall it was a disappointing start to my day which wasn’t the case my previous days I love this hotel and always have an amazing stay whether it’s business or pleasure but surely there should be a more robust contingency plan in place for staff absence at crucial mealtimes ? I hope that this was a minor blip in an otherwise very well run hotel indeed

Stayed in a privileged room, looked tired . On previous visits did not have single duvets in a king size cover !!! Also on web site it states a selection of soft drinks, we had 2 Pepsi & a small bottle of water . Breakfast was disappointing , waited both morning’s for food to be replenished. In previous years it was good quality,this year very poor . Unless reviews say that hotel has upgraded in all aspects we will not return,
