'Rights' on the Water

TripAdvisor rating 4.0/5

Brian J TripAdvisor review

The Thames Lodge Hotel, a very old, possibly heritage listed, favourite that may have lost its touch has recently been renovated and become the Mercure at Staines. It is in a beautiful position right on the river, opposite the rowing club. The new team are still learning but exude warmth. This included fixing a problem with the shower and (rapidly) overcoming a mix up where we were given a room that wasn’t wholly functional, but we stuck with it because of the swift response, the scenery, the river, the value for money, and other local attractions. This place is steeped in history, including nearby Magna Carta signing, and a stone (now a replica) that marks the end of the tidal flow of the Thames, used as the marker for the sale of water rights from King Richard 1 to the local council in 1197. A more modern feature is the availability of a bus to Heathrow about 100 metres from the Hotel which costs considerably less than a taxi. An early check in to the hotel is purchasable also for a reasonable amount which is especially useful for those arriving on flights from Australia and the Far/Middle East. We did not sample the restaurant, but the bar is spacious, comfortable, and has a terrace overlooking the river.

Quiet, friendly hotel

Pleasant hotel, if a little old-fashioned indeed, located in a charming town on the banks of the Thames. Reasonable distance from Staines train station (less than an hour from Waterloo station) and very close to the bus station (half an hour from Heathrow). The staff are friendly. The room was beyond reproach. Superb view from the restaurant. Special mention for Magdalena's service at breakfast. Good evening meals.

We had a great stay all the staff were friendly especially Magda she was so friendly & helpful, the rooms are now being updated, we had a lovely nights sleep the bed was brand new incl the pillows & Bedding, we didn't book breakfast with the room when booking but we paid extra the next morning, breakfast was cooked fresh from ordering & was excellent.

Nice hotel. Shame about the noise

Craigstaiano Business - TripAdvisor review

The hotel on the face of it isn't bad. Nice rooms. Comfy bed. Riverside location. I had a river view room. Friendly service. Shame about the location and the description of the rooms on the booking agent site I used. Fan in room - nope. Sound proofed and double glazed - nope Some rooms might be but mine wasn't. The noise from the trains and planes was unreal. I had to have the window open as no fan, Which was fine, but with the train and aircraft noise was unbearable and slept terribly To be fair, these things are not the hotels fault for being under flight path or close to railway, but don't boast "sound proofed " if it doesn't apply to all rooms. I felt like I had been mis- sold The hotel isn't that bad. And was comfortable. But factors outside their control ruined it for me. Shame really
