Good location, good breakfast, terrible checkout experience

Front desk lady service was good. Big majority of floors are smoke free. We requested a change of room because the entire 5th floor had a terrible cigarette smell. Most valuable thing about hotel is the location. Super convinient to move arround, everything is 20min. Wost experience during check out. Apart from taking more than 30min to check out ( longest time in my life) they charge me minibar service when i didnt take anything. The amount charge was not relevant, the thing that makes me angry is that they charge me for Cokes and gas beverages in the room whre my 5years old daughther and my mother in law stayed. My mother in law doesnot drink soft drinks because of heath reasons and my daughter has never drink Coca Cola. They argue with some pictures and i showed them photos i took initially from the minibars. Again the amount was not relevant but what really makes me angry is the fact was my word with evidence vs a photo of a bottle of water i bought from outside and i left in the room. Nonsense from the manager in charge that day.

I've been staying at Novotel El Borg for the last 2 years and I do not intend to change it. The friendliness, professionalism and help of the staff is outstanding. Beautiful and spacious rooms with all the amenities and always clean. A very big selection for breakfast and the amazing view and food from the roof top terrace needs to be mentioned as well.

Premium location is walking distance to everywhere in Downtown i can see Nile and Egyptian Museum from my room staff very friendly and smile 😊 room is modern the restaurant at the roof is awesome food and view is perfect This is the place u have to stay at Cairo ❤️

Poor First Impression Made - Great Redemption Thereafter!

We, 2 families, arrived at the Novotel El Borg hotel at 8am, after an 8 hour flight from Johannesburg (Sat, 25/06/2022). We specifically booked this hotel based on the reviews of the hotel itself and location on TripAdvisor and Instagram. Our reservation for the group included 2 family rooms. Upon arrival at the hotel, we proceeded with the check-in formalities. However, we were advised that the rooms would be ready in an hour (by the polite male staff member (sorry, I did not get his name)). We decided to wait an hour in the small reception area. After an hour, we engaged with the female staff who seemed perturbed that we are requesting rooms at that time, as check in is only at 2pm. We found this a little unsettling as we were advised that our rooms would be ready at an early time - we did not create this situation ourselves! Noting that we would need to return later, we requested water, to which her abrupt response was that we could purchase water from the bar, and if we find the price high, we can purchase from elsewhere outside the hotel. We also felt that the hotel staff members, and the tour kiosk staff member, were annoyed with us for being seated in the little reception area. THIS IS CERTAINLY NOT GOOD HOSPITALITY FROM MEMBERS OF THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY! We received 2 rooms as booked. 1 of the rooms was not clean ie. it did not appear that the linen was changed from the previous guests as there was hair on the linen, and the shampoos were used. Mohammed (Housekeeping Manager) immediately attended to this situation personally by changing the room and ensuring that the cleanliness was of the highest standard. The 2nd room had no issues. We were allocated rooms on the 1st floor. However, note, the 1st floor of this hotel seems to be located above a few floors of hat seemed to be residential (or other) floors, hence was quite high with a perfect view of the Nile (if river facing). Breakfast was an excellent spread, catering for all palates. We thoroughly enjoyed the daily breakfasts. As per our booking request, we were celebrating 2 birthdays during our stay. The hotel arranged for 2 large cakes, at no cost, at the rooftop terrace restaurant. The service an hospitality during this evening was simply outstanding. The cakes were equally delicious, which we shared with all patrons who were at the restaurant at that time. The view from the terrace was amazing. It really is worth the time and effort to visit the terrace, even for just the view! The location of the hotel is another drawcard. It is perfect for e-hailing and standard taxis to pick-up and drop-off passengers. The reason I mention this is due to us becoming aware of another well known hotel in Cairo where the location requires passengers to walk a distance away from the hotel to meet their taxis. This is not the case with the Novotel. The Opera metro station is approximately 200m away from the hotel as well. Noting other comments on TripAdvisor, we expected the river view rooms to be noisy from the music emanating from the boats on the Nile. This is exactly as expected as Cairo itself is a noisy and busy city, with car hooters running through the night - this is what gives Cairo its magical character! Unfortunately, we did not have sufficient time to use the pool or fitness facility at the hotel. Whilst the overall stay was excellent, first impressions do last, hence my 'average' rating. Also, as a suggestion which would've simply given Novotel El Borg a full 5 stars is if breakfast could have been offered to us as we arrived at the hotel after a long flight whilst breakfast was being served in the hotel. It's a small gesture that would have gone a long way, yet seemed to be totally off the radar at Novotel El Borg!

Nice Stay, but neighborhood too loud

Spacious room with pleasant view by the Nile. Quiet and calming accommodation. However, the Cruise ships disturb the mood with the loud noise up to well after midnight. Would've liked the Swimming Pool to be bigger.
