Glad we'd driven a deal on our booking - would have been really upset otherwise

We were transferred from the Brigstow. Lovely manager called us and explained the situation which was fine - especially as the Grand has a pool and spa (or so the website claims). It seems that these facilities have been closed for years (even pre-covid). The first time we called the hotel to confirm our booking, the hotel didn't yet have the details of it transferred over and didn't say the spa was closed (even when we asked about it). It was only when we were on route to the hotel that this was clarified on the phone. Structurally the hotel is fine (though corridors can be noisy especially if your room is near a partition door which residents seem to allow to slam all night long). Rooms were hot, requiring permanent use of air con. The location is great, and the street vibrant. It's the dirtiness that put us off ... the stairs up to the rooms looked as if they hadn't been hoovered in an age. Our bed didn't even have a mattress protector on it, and the bathroom had black bits all over! The whole place seemed to run on minimal staff, which we'd have sympathy for in the current conditions, if the hotel were clear and honest about it. There wasn't a daily room service. Again, we'd understand this, but don't understand why this wasn't communicated at check in - we had to chase for clean mugs and toilet paper which our rooms kept running out of. Sad to say we won't be back.

Great Stay!

We had a fabulous weekend in Bristol staying at the Mercure Brigstow. The room was very comfortable (we chose a river view), the bar was lovely and the staff friendly and helpful. The location couldn’t be better - there were many bars and restaurants close by, and it was only a short walk from the main street and waterfront. Would recommend.

I have been staying at The Brigstow for over a decade. Having not stayed for 20 months or so due to COVID fresh eyes reported that the hotel is looking somewhat tired and in need of some attention.

Door to our room didn’t lock. Reported in person to reception. Guy said he would come up at 5.30 as we were going out. No show. No phones in the room these days so went down to enquire. We were gong out now. Said he would go up, 3rd flood and key lock the room immediately. When we came back 4 hours or so later, the door hand not been locked. Felt very let down. Staff appeared helpful but unreliable. Could have easily had things stolen. Not impressed.

Ok, but aircon would help

Good location and service. Fixtures and fittings a little tired and lack of air conditioning was a killer in the summer heatwave.

We stayed here for 2 nights in July. The hotel was perfect for our needs - comfortable and close to the centre of town. The bar was lovely (staff were attentive and friendly) and breakfast was good. Nothing not to like. Would recommend.

Hotel in good location.Looks good in reception but rooms not of a great standard even though paid more for a room upgrade river view. There were not any toiletries in the bathroom and the room was like an oven at night no air con so we didn’t get a good night sleep during the 2 night stay

Not the standard I expected

This was my first stay at the Mecure Brigstow, and overall I was dissatisfied with my stay. I have stayed at other Mecure hotels in the Bristol area, and overall the quality provided is very good, however at the Brigstow, my expectations were not met. The room was excessively hot, even with the window open. the air conditioning unit was broken. the dials just turned and turned and the temperature of the air been blown was not cool. I had to sleep on top of the covers all night which resulting in a poor nights sleep. Also with the window open all night I was unable to dampen the noise coming from the local bars and restaurant's. In the bathroom, the inbuilt music player was not working. The lights were confusing as the switches lit random bulbs and hard to get a good balance of light to work/read There was only 2 power sockets in the whole room which was insufficient. When checking out, I asked for a copy of my receipt to be emailed to me, which I usually receive moments later at other hotels, however later that afternoon, I had not received the invoice so called back to enquire, and was advised to wait until the hotel sent them. I had still not received the receipt 5 days after my stay so called back and the kind lady who answered was able to send my receipt instantly. I understand some of these are minor things, but all together, they compounded to create a poor experience. Overall, not a good stay and I will not be choosing the Brigstow when i visit Bristol n the future.

Good location but hotel quite basic

Very good location and staff were friendly. I found hotel a bit basic, the room was OK but nothing special. I was a bit disappointed by the bar as it was quite noisy even though not that many in - one largish group. Some of the bar which would have suited me was very dimly lit and felt closed. It was a busy Fri night and it's a popular area so good for those partying but it was pretty noisy outside. Having siad that a good location. I didn;t sign up for breakfast as I was having a brunch with friends. Bar area had been nicely transformed for the breakfast shift.

The essentials were there. Shabby but clean, comfy bed, paid for riverside room but trees had grown to obscure any view and noise from people sitting outside bars and restaurants was immense and into the night. This was OK but should be warned at booking. Check out wasn’t straightforward because Fas out didn’t work apparently two different systems - not the customers problem….front desk fetched more senior person who sorted it out politely and professionally but not quickly which is why I let them pre-authorise my card for Fast Checkout!

Don't stay in the summer.. A/C not fit for purpose

check in, fine... got to the room ( a suite on the 6th floor), maybe 30 degrees... back to reception , I said we've booked dinner as soon as we get back we'll check out.... " I understand, and you room will be refunded" I've phoned the hotel several times each day, no one picks up, I've emailed, no reply.. and of course no refund.

Great location and very friendly and helpful staff

I would have said that my stay was excellent but we lost WiFi due to a power cut which effected my work. I gather it was not limited to the hotel but the local area and so not much the hotel could do about this.

The room was pleasant and clean and the hotel is in an ideal location. Sadly our room was extremely hot and the air on was not at all effective so we barely slept.

My room was 30+ degrees C, was awake sweating all night, did not sleep at all, could not open the window more than 1cm, the whole hotel air on failed. Aircon unit was blowing hot air. In my 20 years of business travel, this is the worst night I have ever endured. I lost a full night sleep and lost all productivity in business meetings all of the following day. The should have closed the hotel, it was dangerously hot. Extremely disappointed!!!

Perfect for couples looking for a comfortable night in the heart of the city, close to amazing bars and restaurants and the pretty rivers that lead into Bristol harbour. Only thing I would change is having better vegetarian/vegan breakfast options.

Great Location Great breakfast

Overall very good stay - no issues easy to book Great location and Great Breakfast with plenty of choice Had a room upgrade but it was more like a normal standard room in most hotels - nothing special, thought it was quite small for a superior room Although room was clean and bed was comfy My only negative is having to pay to park which obviously bumps the price up. Aqua restaurant which is a 2 minute work is somewhere I would recommend as well as the mecure hotel itself.

Very disappointed with the "privilege" package No slippers, gown or paper given or offered. The fully stocked soft drinks consisted of 1 small can of coke & 1 small can of diet coke. The balcony in the room (601) was not a balcony as described, but just french doors that we were unable to open more than 3 inches. Unfortunately the air conditioning was not working, this could have been explained to us on arrival, we would have understood. Instead we spent an hour trying to get it to work and it was only when we went to reception to enquire that we were offered a fan due to the air conditioning not working. Sorry to complain bur air conditioning aside, these were all items we had paid extra for. A response to these comments would be appreciated
