I had stayed at the Ibis Budget about a year ago and was impressed with the room considering the price. This time it was the complete opposite. The hotel is incredibly rundown. The corridors had holes kicked in the walls, sharp metal strips and screws sticking out of corners, and piles of dirty laundry left in overflowing cages the whole time we were there. The room, which was a standard queen, was tiny. No space to open a suitcase and only one chair and one bedside cabinet for two people. The window looked straight into an office full of people just a few metres away, so we had to keep the blockout curtains continuously closed for privacy. The shower door was supposed to be three glass panels but one of the panels was missing, so water splashed onto the floor whenever we showered. The “free toiletries” was just a bottle of liquid soap attached to the wall which was supposed to double up as shampoo. The was no conditioner. The bedside light didn’t work and the ceiling sprinkler had been painted over… so let’s hope there’s never a fire. Having said all that, the only positive thing I can say is that the staff are friendly and the location is convenient… but that’s not enough to lure me back.

Dissapointing, Noisy and run down

Very dissapointing. I went the weekend of the grand prix so paid $350 for a double std room. This hotel has not been renovated, the carpet is so bare. the rooms have a shower in them, not in a bathroom but just in the corner with a shower curtain. The door on the shower was missing a panel. There was a horrendsous noise coming from outside which sounded like an aironditioner turbine or something but didnt stop. I was moved to another room which was better insulated from the sound but still very run down. The sheets were clean and thr staff were helpful. If i was paying $100/night i would be fine with this but jacking up the prices due to the grand prix made it very dissapointing experience.

Location is great, staff were polite, basic hotel don't expect high quality

Its an IBIS budget I think that says it all. If you need a cheap place to stay which is very central, surrounded by plenty of eateries and shops, public transport on your door step then choose this hotel but don't go expecting super clean rooms or the best facilities. The bathroom only had a curtain separating the shower from the toilet so the floor would get wet, we always showered with flip flops on as it wasn't the cleanest of bathrooms. There were lots of sign of wear and tear, the front door downstairs leads to a corridor then you take the lift up to reception so it can be missed if you aren't paying attention. There were some homeless people close by being quite loud but this is expected in a large city. The staff were friendly, one evening we brought microwave food and asked reception for some cutlery which they did provide and allowed us to use the guest microwave and sit in the breakfast area to eat. If budget is a factor in choosing your hotel then i would say to choose this one as the location was great and the bedding was soft and clean.

Location and staff were great and that is where it ends. Holes in the walls in the hallway getting to my room, everything looked dirty except for the white sheets on the bed. I checked out after 15 minutes of getting there. I did not feel safe. Really disappointing as I know that it was "budget" but this was at a whole other level. I would think that being part of the Accor Group that it would be of a better standard even for a budget hotel. They did reimburse my money straight away without question. Very overpriced as well. I wish I had have taken photos. Nothing like the pictures on the website.

The only good thing about this hotel is its location. There is a small nondescriptive entrance at elizabeth street which leads to a long corridor to a lift that will bring you to the reception on the 1st floor. I felt very claustrophobic getting to my room on the 5 lth floor with small and tight corridor. The room has a small tinted window and a small aircon. The room is small with 2 small twin beds and is very basic and sparsely furnished. The toilet and walk in shower is tiny.. the bed and pillow offers no support and is small and placement of the reading light on the bed headboard is bad because everything is try to watch tv sitting on the bed, it will dig into the back of my neck. Be prepared for very basic room if you chose to stay in this property.
