Cheap and nasty - school dormitory

Do not pick this hotel if you want to sleep. The bed was horrible - you could feel the springs in what was left of a mattress, and in the middle of the bed was a hard pice of wood pressing into you (two beds pushed together). All night you would hear people walking up and down the hallway - so loud and clear several times we turned our light on thinking someone was in the room. Doors banging all night and people talking or “enjoying” themselves in neighbouring rooms. The worst thing was the smell in the room! Clearly they have had an issue with mould and staff decided to empty a can of deodorant or spray a bottle of cheep men’s cologne in the room! I had to wash all my clothing when I got home as it all smelled of the room! My asthma was triggered by inhaling the perfume and it smelled like a teenagers bedroom!! On top of the smell, the lights in the room were very dim - (almost like they don’t want you to see something?) I needed to use my phone torch during the day to see things! The globes/bulbs were very low wattage. One lift/elevator was broken and this left just 1 for the building! It was out of action for a big part of my stay and it would take over 15 min to get to my room from the lobby! The staff had not put up signs and were not communicating to guests - so you can just imagine what the lobby was like during checkout. If you want cheap and nasty - stay here. If you want to sleep and or enjoy your visit to Melbourne, go anywhere else. This hotel is not your normal Mercure.

Comfortable Bed, Great Position - handy to centre of city - Friendly staff. Front desk girl Junlinamay was very welcoming and helpful. I don’t understand why in most hotel rooms there is only one chair. Room reasonably clean (we found a dirty sock). Bedding old. Hotel met our needs even though there were no extras - no shower cap or hand towel - Breakfast was good value.

We are Accor customers for around 20 years and always loved it. Unfortunately our experience in this hotel was not what I expected. The bed was in bad shape. The room had a mould smell and the walls were so thin that we could listen to the other guest’s conversations. Nobody came to clean our room during the 4 nights we stayed there and to be honest I haven’t seen any housekeeper during our stay at the hotel. I called the reception several times to ask about the bottle of wine they offered me for the lack of cleaning and nobody responded. So, no cleaning and no wine for me. The customers service was not great and left me with the impression that because of their great location there was no need for them to do a better job with us, clients. I wouldn’t stay there again. But they seem indifferent to that.

It’s amazing that your staff manages to reply to all these comments over so many years but nothing seems to have changed. Worst hotel stay in a city. Room had two different colored ceiling lamps, one fluorescent, one warm. Rooms are terribly dated, looks nothing like the photos presented online. No soundproofing, you can hear music and talking and tv all night and day. Honestly feels like a cheap roadside motel. Rooms cleaned only once every 3 days for “environmental” reasons, when we tried putting in a request for cleaning just to change towels and clear the rubbish, staff insisted they couldn’t promise that, and could only make a request. We finally managed to get the staff to change towels and clear rubbish, but mugs and cups were left as is, no effort to try to even rinse or wash them, bed was tucked in haphazardly, might as well not do it at all. Toilet was terrible. Shower area was glassed off but so narrow and tiny. No ventilation fan so it was musky and damp. Receptionist phone line is practically useless, as with operator line and concierge. Nobody ever picks up. Honestly, for this amt of money, just give a honest photo of the rooms and see if people want it. Complete catfish impression of this hotel. Didn’t know Mercure hotel chain was so poorly. Wouldn’t stay again.

Very uncomfortable bed. Probably the worst I have slept in, and I do a lot of travelling. I could feel the spring wires digging into my back. A shame as otherwise I would rate at 4 stars. Very good location, windows to see into Little Bourke. Clean shower and toilet. Friendly staff.
