In the midst of the latest cyclone, I felt safe and catered for in Sofitel. Right from the get go the staff were welcoming from reception to some amazing staff working at the bar (a welcome reprieve from the weather and collapse of work/social opportunities outdoors). Great ambience, excellent rooms and staff like this; what's not to love?

Felt invisible, not always a bad thing. I honestly would have rated this good, considering the headache I had through the second day and night. The lack of manners of your staff and the contempt I was treated with at breakfast on my last day was such that i would not stay again without some serious persuasion. I will also tell any one that asks of soffitels inability to know who their guests are. I would also tell them they should carefully go over their credit card bill after their stay and be prepared to be accosted by staff, and also the indifference you will be treated with when letting management know of wait staffs rudeness. Actually really disappointed. I've stayed in 3 star hotels that have treated me better.

We always stay at the Sofitel the rooms are nice and always clean, the staff are always lovely and accommodating and the restaurant and bar are both great. The location is awesome as well. Unfortunately we did book accommodation Durban appointment and the cyclone Alfred came along. We did still go and went to our appointment etc however the hotel neglected to send and email to it’s guests explaining the reduced amenities during this time. The restaurant was only open as a buffet style for breakfast lunch and dinner. Very limited options and not very good food and I felt like because nothing else was open and the guests had no other option but to stay there they charged absolutely ridiculous prices $60 each for lunch and all we had was 4-5 options some dry pulled pork, rice, roast vegetables etc I had this $60 plate of food in front of me that was worth maybe $15-20 max very disappointing. On top of that I understand not being able to use the pool but the hotel gym was also closed ( this makes no sense at all ) all the guests had nothing at all to do list were sitting in the hotel lobby because they were all sick of sitting in there rooms. Worst experience ever. My husband and I decided to leave a day early and go stay down the good coast with friends because the food situation was so bad and the only other option was to sit at the bar and drink.
