Initially there was nothing to see . Then too steep a climb for two 90 yr olds . Then finally another walkway (with a step half way) into the bush , again with nothing to see but trees . Not what we were expecting nor experienced in 60 years of travel in 120 countries . BUT what a delight - and the birdsong was a bonus . Oh , there was also an interesting hotel on the grounds with great staff , yummy food and drinks and personal go cart .

Wow...what an amazing resort! My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The rooms are lovely, roomy and so peaceful surrounded by trees and bird life. The balconies catch the winter sun and are lovely and sheltered so great to sit outside with a wine and book. The resort itself offers everything for a totally relaxing stay. The buildings and grounds are well looked after. The pool is heated to 30 deg so we were able to use it in winter! The cedar hot tub is heated to 40 deg and is a treat to soak in. You also have free use of their mountain bikes. There is a wonderful guest lounge and bar in the main building with a fantastic sunny outdoor deck. The restaurant offers great food but could improve their choices for food allergies. Their breakfasts are great and worth including. The staff are fantastic. They are all super friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. A particular thank you to Simon in the restaurant and Zaid at reception. The Grand Mercure Puka Park offers the whole package for a fantastic holiday. I highly recommend staying here and can't wait to come back!

The resort is a 2-hour drive from Auckland, driving through some fantastic scenery that you just have to experience in person. If you are looking for something special, hidden away, quiet, comfortable with wonderful helpful staff and great facilities this has to be on your list. What comes with this experience is remoteness, you can’t just walk down the road to the nearest shopping centre or café strip. You would will certainly need a car to get around. It’s also built into / on the hill side, so walking anywhere is a challenging adventure and not suited to the frail. Parking is also a fair distance from the accommodation. Fortunately the reception staff have a golf buggy and are very happy to carry you and your luggage from car to apartment and back again.

Puka Park Resort is the perfect getaway and complementary accommodation option for Pauanui. The resort itself is humble but top quality in service and amenities. From the heated bathroom floors, heated pool and spa and sauna to the friendly staff, quiet rooms and nature filled walks, it was lovely. It's super close to the white sand beach as well. So good.

We had a wonderful (if not too short) stay in a beautiful cabin. The hotel is very well maintained with a lovely balance of nature and a managed environment. The pool is peaceful and relaxing with a lovely hot tub too. We didn't see a other guest while using the facilities until we went for dinner.

Our stay was great it was only 1 night could definitely make it 2. Dinner at restaurant was yummy and such a convenience 2min walk to our accommodation after dinner and dessert. Breakfast was included in our booking and a 11am checkout amazing not rushing to get up have breakfast and get out it was so relaxing.

Great facilities. Sauna was great. Spa tub could of been a bit hotter - could of been the tub cover not been on as it needs replacing as lid is broken and water logged.

Lovely room although a little dated, no USB ports which was fustrating Breakfast range was ok. we got there at 830 and all "hot" food, eggs, bacon etc were quite cold so unedible Nice to have a seperate lounge and fire and we wanted to sit there and have an after dinner drink but showing rugby league on a very big screen made it feel like a sports bar so we left early

Fantastic stay, Dani and the waiter with the One Piece tattoo were particularly helpful during our stay, very kind and answered all our questions. Dani was kind enough to remember our names when we came in on consecutive days for breakfast. A young blonde woman at the front desk was also kind enough to call up and reserve us a table when we first arrived, which was 4 minutes after seating technically ended at the restaurant, thanks to her we had a fantastic meal when we first arrived after a long drive.
