What was supposed to be a long-awaited family trip turned into a frustrating and inconvenient experience due to a series of service failures, none of which were adequately addressed. Firstly, both of the rooms I booked experienced a power outage, significantly impacting our stay. The night manager, while polite, was clearly unprepared to handle the situation and demonstrated little regard for our concerns. Despite multiple requests, no compensation was offered or provided for this major disruption. Additionally, we faced persistent issues with our door/lift access cards. At any given time, we could only use one card between us, forcing us to constantly coordinate movement within the hotel. This was particularly inconvenient, preventing us from exploring Wellington separately or even accessing the hotel bar with ease. We eventually gave up on requesting additional working cards due to the repeated failures to resolve the issue. Further compounding the poor experience were basic service oversights: Our group was not provided with enough cups, mugs, or towels despite booking for multiple guests per room. Towels were delivered to the wrong room after we explicitly requested them for the other. My in-room phone was out of service, forcing me to physically go downstairs at 7 AM to report the outage—only to later discover my sister had already reported it at 4:30 AM, yet no action had been taken. I repeatedly emphasized that we had a wedding to prepare for and did not have time to switch rooms, yet the night manager insisted that moving rooms was the only possible solution, claiming that the general manager—who had the authority to approve any form of compensation—would not be available until Monday, the day of our departure. This trip was particularly meaningful as it was my family’s first time traveling together in many years. Having spent 16 years overseas, I was especially excited to reunite with them. Unfortunately, the persistent inconveniences and dismissive service put a damper on our experience, making our stay at Ibis Wellington memorable for all the wrong reasons.
