I became extremely ill and was unable to leave my room or catch my return flight. I booked an additional night and despite having done this I was harassed by one specific staff member. I was repeatedly called on the room number, my mobile number, and she came to my door. Whilst this staff member harassed my 14 year old daughter I had to run to the toilet, all the while with the room door open. The woman threatened me, told me she would call the police, told me to shut up. Even after I showed her the confirmation and booking reference, I did not get an apology nor any recompense. In fact, this staff member still needed to get the last word in telling me to go inside and shut my door. Prior to this I had ordered bottled water through room service during the night, I had called about medical treatment. I had requested additional toilet paper and kept communicating regarding extending check out times. Once I had a phone appointment with my GP and my daughter had gone out to the chemist I decided I would not be able to fly home and called to extend my booking. Because I was too unwell to come downstairs and because my daughter was not allowed to pay apparently, I was told to book online. So I booked and paid for an additional night. I provided confirmation to another staff member who had come to the door. Therefore, by this stage, having no sleep, being sick, skipping my medication due to vomiting, I became incredibly emotional. Under the circumstances, this was a reasonable response. My daughter was in tears and afterwards I had a panic attack and cried for over an hour. The staff member’s inability to find the booking in the system was neither my fault nor my problem. I could not and still cannot understand why the issue could not have been resolved at a later time such as check out considering the circumstances. This entire ordeal, was further compounded because it impacted my ability to re-book flights. Due to the constant calls and interruptions I missed the timeframe. This resulted in having to spend an additional $655 for return flights to Melbourne (VIA HOBART) This was the most affordable and fastest option. I was still sick and spent about 7 hours at airports and flying. But honestly, I just wanted to get away from that horrible woman.

Location was great and Maria at check in was very friendly and efficient. The walls in the room could use a good cleaning and we only had 1 facecloth and last day after they cleaned they didn’t leave us any.

We had a good three night stay at Mercure Sydney. It was quick and easy check in and our room was available on our arrival. Having stayed here several times we have always found the rooms to be clean and comfortable. All amenities available in the bathroom. The hotel is located just a short walk from Central Station. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
