Overpriced, out dated, disappointed

The four starred Novotel chain hotel should be upscale with high standards, but this one in Southampton is a big disappointment. The restaurant staff are good but the front desk staff are lack of passion (cold sometimes). The hotel amenities are out dated; the central AC can’t be adjusted for individual needs and fans are provided for the stuffy climate which is unbelievable for a four starred hotel where room temperature can’t be adjusted when it’s unpleasant. Although gym is available for use, you need to ask the staff to access it since the combination code isn’t provided and the room key can’t be used. No room phones are available; they require the service requested to be done via WhatsApp which is very inconvenient. The location is OK since it’s close to a cruise terminal but it would be more fun to stay in the old town center where most of the restaurants and activities are located. The overall impression on Southampton hotels are they are overpriced due to lack of competition. They are old and out d with very limited amenities.

Good Hotel, Rubbish Breakfast

Steve M TripAdvisor review

We used the hotel the night before our cruise. The receptionist was excellent, the room was clean and adequate and we were pre warned that there was a party on but it finished at 11.00pm and it was not a problem. We parked our car for 8 nights in the hotel carpark which was perfect. The taxi ride to the ship and back was about £9.00. The only reason for a 3* rating is the breakfast, it was below par and expensive, my recommendation would be to use TFI Friday, McDonalds or John Lewis for a cheaper option, all within easy walking distance. Other than the breakfast, this was a good stay.
