Here is our email to the hotel almost 10 days ago and we haven't received any reply. ------------------ Dear Guest Services Team / Hotel Management, I am writing to share some critical feedback regarding our recent stay at the Pullman Port Douglas Sea Temple Resort & Spa. We chose your property based on high recommendations from close friends, but an incident on our checkout day (June 14th) left our family in an incredibly stressful situation that we feel could have been easily avoided with proper guest communication. We needed to drive to Cairns Airport (CNS) to catch a 9:55 AM flight to Proserpine (PPP). As first-time visitors from the United States, we were entirely unaware that the Cairns Ironman event was taking place that day. When we started our navigation at 7:20 AM, we noticed the GPS route had jumped from the standard 50-minute drive to a 2.5-hour detour. Assuming it was a digital error, we went to the front desk, where staff confirmed the road closures due to the race. While this major sports event is common knowledge to locals, it was impossible for us to anticipate. We were deeply disappointed and shocked that the resort did not provide any advance warning, check-out reminders, or signage about these massive, predictable regional road closures—especially for guests checking out early to catch flights. Out of sheer desperation, we took the 2.5-hour route and arrived at the airline counter at 9:35 AM, just 20 minutes before departure. By an absolute miracle, the airline staff made a rare exception and allowed our family of four to board. Had we missed it, our next 10+ days in Australia would have been completely upended, as it was the only flight available for two days. While we made our flight, the experience was profoundly distressing for us and our two young children. We deliberately chose your premium property over staying in Cairns City for a seamless holiday, despite the extra driving distance. However, given this oversight, we no longer feel comfortable recommending the Pullman Port Douglas to other friends and families. For an upscale resort, proactive communication regarding major local disruptions should be standard practice. I hope you will review your communication protocols for future international guests so they do not have to endure a similar ordeal. I look forward to hearing your perspective on this matter. Guest satisfaction is extremely important to us, and while we did take steps to notify our guests in advance, we appreciate your feedback and will continue to review our communication methods to ensure important travel information is received as effectively as possible by all guests, particularly our international visitors.
