Date Night Ideas for Perth

Looking to take your special someone on a date but want to avoid the typical dinner and movie combo? Perth is packed full of fun and interesting activities for you and your partner to enjoy on any budget.

Blessed with sunny weather, blue skies and warm evenings Perth is the ultimate picnic destination. While taking your date out to dinner is always nice, there is something special about taking the time to pack a picnic basket full of nibbles and bubbles that you think your date will enjoy. 

The classic Perth picnic spot has to be Kings Park. Perched high above the city, with sweeping views over skyscrapers and the river below, it’s one of the best views around. Roll out your picnic blanket on the park’s extensive (and incredibly well-manicured grass) and watch the city light up as the evening approaches. 

If you want to take advantage of the city’s beautiful beaches then why not enjoy a picnic of fish and chips on the grassy bank of Cottesloe beach. What could be more romantic than watching the sunset over the ocean?

And if you're looking for a great place to grab some fresh fish and chips then you’re in luck because Marine Parade, right behind the beach, is lined with bustling cafes and canteens for you to choose from. 

The iconic Little Creatures Brewery along Fremantle’s port is the perfect place to enjoy a locally made beers. From classics like the Pale Ale and Pacific Ale to limited release beers, Little Creatures has something for every beer drinker. While you're there, you can cross the sidewalk into the brewery’s restaurant and sample their food too – we recommend trying the woodfired pizzas!

If you’re looking for a more intimate setting, then Strange Company in Fremantle’s centre offers wine, beer and spirit tastings. Order some nibbles to share like like a cheese selection and find a seat inside this bar’s moody interior.  

 If you want to impress your date with your mature taste in music, then head to The Ellington Jazz Club for their live jazz evenings featuring local artists. The dim lighting, tasty cocktails and the sweet sound of jazz makes it one of Perth’s best date night spots. 

The Jazz Cellar in Hawthorn also offers up an evening of jazz. Enter the bar through the famous old red telephone box entrance and step back in time with the intriguing vintage furnishings, artefacts, and enamel advertising signs covering the walls. 

If you’ve snagged a warm Sunday evening then pack a picnic and make a beeline for the Fremantle Arts Centre’s gigs. Lay out your blanket in the grassy courtyard and enjoy music for local and international artists. You can even take a wander around the exhibitions and hit the gift shop to find some local treasures. Sunday gigs generally run from October through to March, be sure to check the website to plan your visit.

I know we promised we would avoid the typical “dinner and drinks” option, but these local eateries needed to make the top Perth date night spots list. For cheap eats, Pinchos in Leederville offers Spanish tapas. Pair with a delicious glass of Spanish red or a glass of sangria and you’re in business!

If you want something a little more casual then Lucky Chan's Laundry + Noodlebar delivers a delicious range of bao, ramen and dumplings – along with some pretty tasty cocktails. This ‘laundrobar’ provides the perfect casual setting for any laidback date. 

Or spoil your partner at Il Lido in Cottesloe and enjoy their award-winning selection of Italian food and drink, like the gnocchi with duck ragu. Be sure to call up and book a table with ocean views. 

While these may not exactly be date night ideas, they were just too good to leave off the list. Perth’s easy access to both beaches and the river makes it a great place to enjoy an array of water sports.

Whether you’re snorkelling around Mettams Pool, doing some stand-up paddle boarding in Bicton (be too sure to keep your eyes peeled for the local dolphins which like to hang out around the rock caves) or kayaking around South Perth There are plenty of opportunities to create a lovely day-date around Perth and avoid any of those awkward silences.
