Noisy and Crowded - avoid this spa!

TripAdvisor rating 1.0/5

Kathryn R TripAdvisor review

The spa and pools were very crowded. The locker room was so congested it was impossible to change. The pools were all full, and there were no available chaise lounges - they were either full of dirty towels, occupied, or marked “reserved”. The indoor pools were packed with groups who were talking loudly, the entire bath house was very noisy and not at all peaceful or relaxing. The space felt like a crowded airport waiting room, rather than a spa. We paid an extra $59 since we were not staying at the hotel - what a mistake. We did not enjoy our time there at all, but rather couldn’t wait to leave after our massages. I would not recommend this place, it is way too noisy and crowded to enjoy.

very difficult to get spa appointments for 3 people. I called 3 weeks in advance. I ended up not getting in for a massage because they were unable to provide me the type of massage I wanted which was your salt stone massage with a female therapist. I found the spa area lacking in help. Fire went out, it was cold, nobody around. Not world class

Good, but . . . .

I've been to quite a few spas and this one was a solid good. Before arriving, I called the spa to find out what type of equipment you had in your gym. I specifically asked if there was a peloton bike and was told there were none. That was not the case, and when I checked in, I saw that there were 2 pelotons. I understand that not all employees of the spa know all of the details, but if you mentioned in your description of the workout space on your Mission Inn and Spa web page that you have peloton bikes, this miscommunication could be avoided. I would have come a lot earlier if I had known that I could do my peloton workout. It's a beautiful space with lounging areas that were very comfortable. Of note, we were told upon entrance to the spa that the areas around the fire pits should not be "claimed". That rule was not very closely adhered to. When we finally found an open fire pit spot, the propane tank was empty. One of the attendants checked another fire pit and that too was empty. He even went so far as to check in the building and there were no spare tanks anywhere. We were at the spa on Monday of MLK weekend and it was very busy, yet it didn't seem like there was enough staff to take care of keeping things looking picked up. There were only 2 people working out by the pools the entire afternoon and there were piles of towels and dirty dishes all over the place. My spa service and attendant was nice and the waiting areas and nourishment offerings were great. I really liked the bath and body products you had, but was sad to see black mold on the walls of the showers.

Beautiful hotel - hot springs are extra $$

Hotel is beautiful and service is impeccable. That being said, the spa and pricing model is a headache. If you’re coming here for the hot springs, you’ll need to pay for a service or a day pass (I believe services include a day pass). Day passes for hotel guests are $69/day if you arrive before 3pm and $49/day if you arrive after 3pm (spa is open from 9-6). So if you’re coming for one night and want to use the hot springs that evening and again the following morning, you’re paying ~$120 extra per person. $480 for our family of four to use the hot springs both days felt like a lot. I’d love it if the price of the hotel just included access to the hot spring but at the least I wish they’d do a 24 hour pass so we could enjoy both days at the pools. (This is on top of the $30/day self parking option.) That being said, the hot springs are pretty cool. There were 6 pools/jacuzzis, sauna, steam room, relaxation room, and other cool amenities. If stairs are hard for you note that the hotel has no elevator but they proactively offered first floor rooms and had bags sent up to the room.

Thank you for choosing to spend your getaway with us and for sharing your experience. We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed time at the spa, including the hot spring pools, relaxation areas, steam rooms, and our other wellness amenities. It’s wonderful to know you were able to fully unwind. We truly appreciate your feedback regarding the spa access fee. As our spa welcomes both resort and day guests, capacity can occasionally be limited; the fee helps us thoughtfully manage occupancy so all guests can enjoy a calm, unhurried, and restorative experience. That said, you should not have been charged twice in the same day. Spa access is valid for the full day and is also complimentary with any booked spa treatment. We’d also like to clarify that there is no additional fee to enjoy our main resort pool, which is similarly fed by our soothing, geothermally heated mineral waters. Many areas of the resort do offer elevator access including Fairmont Spa; however, our historic main building—originally built in 1927—features stairs only. Should you have any specific accessibility needs or preferences, we would be more than happy to assist in selecting accommodations that best suit your comfort for a future stay. We sincerely appreciate your feedback and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for an even more seamless and relaxing visit.
