Charles O. Families - Confirmed reviews ALL

We have been to the Fairmont San Francisco countless times over the years, also bringing my family every few years, which I did this Thanksgiving week. At all times previous, the Fairmont was elegant, beautiful, and an oasis of calm in a busy city. While the lobby was understandably busier during Thanksgiving week, this year it was absolute bedlam. On arrival we were greeted with a chaotic scene, having to fight our way through literally hoards of non-guests, jostling each other, and occasionally yelling across the lobby to each other. The lobby itself, previously as elegant as the hotel has always been, had been inexplicably transformed. The tree was no longer the centerpiece of the lobby. Every single chair and sofa had been removed. There was quite literally no place to sit down, and given the hoards of 'Disneyland tourists' occupying the chaos of the lobby, we would have been hard pressed to find a place to sit anyway, even if the chairs and sofas had not all been removed. In the center of the lobby, with the tree stuck in the corner, was a tacky and cheesy pseudo-bar, not much used, at least it appeared to me on the occasions I fought my way through the lobby to the front door. The employees were gracious, polite, and hardworking, but clearly overworked in an indisputably and grossly understaffed facility. I do want to make note of one individual, Cameron, at the front desk, who was diligent, tremendously professional and helpful, and someone the Fairmont should be grateful to have in its employ. While I may return to the Fairmont again one day, unless they return to more elegant times, I will never do so during the holidays, as my entire extended family endured with us a similar experience, with the same reaction. Finally, having greatly enjoyed the Thanksgiving dinner before at Crown Room, neither we, nor many of the guests with whom we spoke, can understand why the Fairmont steadfastly refuses to duplicate that experience. The Laurel Court is simply no substitute, especially with the hoards right outside its doors.

Too loud - awful stay and our whole family could not sleep due to loud family next to us and in the hallway. They were up at 5AM running up/down the hallway.

Some of the basic items were missing from the room. Our late check-out was cancelled at the last minute, and we had to request it again. Our parking was canceled for no reason. The accommodations felt sloppy and rushed.

Check in was as good as I have ever experienced. The front desk man was incredibly nice. I was not told about the extra fees of $35/day so when I checked out I was shocked and very disappointed.

Upon arrival, we specifically requested a quiet room. Instead, the hotel informed us that we had been “upgraded,” but the room we received had an extremely loud HVAC system that made it impossible to sleep through the night. Only after we complained the next day were we moved to a better room, while the shower did not have hot water at the beginning, and my husband had to take the shower with a warm look water. The check-in process was also disappointing. The lines were long, slow, and poorly managed, forcing us to wait twice — a frustrating and time-consuming experience. The buffet breakfast was overpriced and underwhelming, offering little value for the cost. In addition, the room itself was not as clean as one would reasonably expect from a hotel of this standard. Overall, our stay fell far short of expectations. Between the sleepless night, the inefficient check-in, the disappointing breakfast, and the lack of cleanliness, this hotel failed to deliver on even the basics of comfort and service. We will not be returning.

Dear Ms. M., Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us I’m truly sorry for the challenges you experienced during your stay. I’ll be reaching out to you directly so we can discuss your experience . Warm regards, Ashley Garcia Guest Experience Manager Fairmont San Francisco
