The customer service of this hotel is non-existent. I arrived early and asked if it was possible to check in. The answer was 'No' 'No, I am sorry we were fully booked last night' 'No, I am sorry the rooms are not ready yet' 'Yes but you will need to pay extra' Those were the answers I expected instead of one word 'No' without a smile or an apology, even a fake one. This was evident from other interactions as well as there was never a smile or hello when passing by the reception. At check-out, I was asked to pay for breakfast when I didn't have any. The property itself is very dated even though the rooms are good size and clean. Location is perfect as its a few minutes walk from the train station and the main shopping street of the city - but the same is true for plenty of other hotels, like the Premier Inn next door which is cheaper. I wouldn't stay here again and I do not recommend it.

At night, the room was too hot to sleep. The window couldn't be opened and the "air-con" was extremely weak, despite being set to the lowest temperature and the highest power. At the time, the weather outside was rather cold, so there was no reason it shouldn't be possible to have a cool room.

I've been staying at Mercure Hotel Saarbrucken City multiple times for business. The hotel has the right balance of clean and cosy. The reception, the hotel and the rooms has interior design that's not too posh, modern or cold (souless). Instead, it just hit the sweetspot of being able to feel like home. I'm always looking forward to my stay.

Big room (Superior) with plenty of space and big comfortable bed. Convenient location. Check-in and check-out was efficient but rather impersonal - perhaps because we were in motorcycling kit, but we are a respectable couple in our late 60s and would like to have felt welcomed!
