A very pleasant hotel located opposite the port in La Rochelle. The rooms clean and well decorated but seemed a bit tight for two normal sized people. Compared to a Standard room at Novotel Hotels I've stayed at. For example, there was a lack of space to dry towels. No writing materials. My first disappointment came when we went to eat a meal in the restaurant the first evening. There was no salad on the menu, all meat and one fish. We were asked if we wanted a drink but the red wines on the menu were not available...Pomerol, Chateau Neuf du Pape. It was really unusual, there was a gnocchi plat but no salad with it, just pasta and cheese. The waiter went to see if they could do a simple salad but they said they had no salad. Interesting, so for a good heart and good health, we only basically had the choice of gnocchi which well, being of Italian origin, knew wouldn't be the most healthy of plates as there was no side salad to accompany the meal. Hence we did not use the restaurant once during our stay. I find it so surprising that the Hotel makes a fuss about the water and ecology yet can't serve healthy foods to its customers. I don't want to come to a luxury hotel to become fat and unhealthy, I want my meals to be as refined and healthy as the water in the hotel pool (what a surprise, little chlorine or salt, no eye irritation whatsoever after 3à minutes doing lengths. Finally we left the hotel and went into town and found a nice little restaurant which satisfied our need. Credit to the staff they were all smiles and very very helpful. I would suppose that being in such a market town reputed for its ecology, town planning and bicycles it didn't make sense to buy a few lettuces at a euros each and spend 2-3 minutes preparing them for your customers with some real basic ingredients? On leaving La Rochelle we went into the market which is open mon-friday, we stocked up on fresh nutritional fruit and vegetables which we can't find everywhere; "asperges des bois" (very rare, only available 3 weeks/year) for example. So overall, great location, great pool, great staff. Tarifs a bit too high for what I experienced. I would install smaller beds in the rooms that are a bit tight (307) for example. Diversify your menus to make hearts healthy and make noise about it. People are moving away from quantity and red meat, go for sea food salads or just salads. You will have near zero kitchen waste if you go down this line. At home I only have a yellow recycling bin for paper, plastics etc All the rest is for the compost.
