We love this hotel. We have stayed a few times and love its location, the breakfast is one of the best we’ve had and the setting is just so relaxing. There’s just always something that lets it down for us meaning it doesn’t live up to its 5 stars. We travelled with our teen and I booked a room with two double beds. I erred as soon as I booked as I meant to book the room with the king bed and separate single as I knew from previous stays the doubles are very small (who knew they could vary in size, Google tells all). However this was my fault so I left it until nearer the time bearing in mind capacity at the hotel, and emailed to check availability to change rooms the day before. Despite the rooms being the same price online, I was told there would be an additional charge of £65. I emailed back querying this given they were priced the same online however got no response. A little explanation would have been helpful and I don’t think unreasonable to expect given the luxury hotel. Furthermore during our stay the hotel was very quiet so there appeared to be plenty rooms available. I’m fully aware it’s my fault for booking the wrong room, but a little decent customer service goes a long way. The room we stayed in was lovely and spacious. The shower tray just wouldn’t drain though and my feet were having a bath within a couple of minutes…so much so I couldn’t take the time to wash my hair as it was overflowing onto the bathroom floor. Hubby and son experienced the same as they showered in my leftover water 🙈 I mentioned it on checkout so they could sort it for the next guests however because it had eventually drained once we’d gone to breakfast, it didn’t appear a problem which makes me think this happens quite often. We dined in the Italian restaurant and the food was delicious. The service was fantastic also, would highly recommend. Breakfast as always was amazing, the choice is phenomenal. Great hotel, fantastic location but just not quite the 5 stars it should be.

I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights for a conference during which time I enjoyed most of the facilities that the hotel had to offer. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and could not praise either the hotel or its very friendly and knowledgeable staff highly enough.

Whilst the hotel was lovely, great location and comfortable large room I was very disappointed with the food and drink options on offer to me. I was accompanying my husband who was at the hotel for a conference. On the Wednesday night I was not invited to dine with the conference so had intended to order room service. Being a 5 * hotel I had imagined the menu would be varied and imaginative but sadly it was not! It was the most boring and frankly unhealthy menu with little that wasn’t fried or fast food style. I phoned the concierge who told me all the other restaurants in the hotel were closed that night which I understood given the hotel was predominantly booked with conference guests. However it turned out that I was able to eat in the bar which I duly did. My table was greasy and not cleaned before my food was served, my sourdough was extremely greasy, solid and burnt so I was unable to eat it. My mussels were tasty although a little more care when plating up would have prevented me being served with some unopened ones. My other large disappointment was the distinct lack of non alcoholic alternatives on offer to me as a non drinker. On the Wednesday night I was told there was nothing to offer me and on Thursday night I was offered Becks Blue when I asked for an alternative to wine. Having replied I didn’t drink lager or beer I was then offered Guinness 0 or Perroni Zero. In this day and age when there are plenty of non alcoholic alternatives such as gin, wine and fizzy wines I found it hard to understand why you don’t stock more than 3 alcohol free drinks. As a final point it maybe worth advising staff of the menu being served at the meal they are waiting at. When the tea and coffee was offered at the end of our meal I asked for decaffeinated coffee which was on the menu card at our table. The waitress asked if that was a type of tea, I explained it was coffee but not the one in the pot she was holding. She then told me they didn’t serve decaf coffee. I pointed to the menu to show her and she then proceeded to tell me that the decaf and normal coffee was all served from the same pot. Needless to say I skipped the coffee. I travel a lot with my husband so have stayed in a lot of hotels and I have to say I was disappointed with my stay in your hotel which was sad as I had been very excited about coming.
