Overpriced noisy room

Room #318. Overpriced for what it was in comparison to what else is available in Melbourne CBD Spencer St area. Tiny cramped room. Sink was dirty. Smell of body odour in the room. Bathroom window did not close properly.

Ideal location; quiet rooms; helpful, friendly staff; great value for money. It is diagonally opposite Southern Cross station, so it is not far to walk with luggage. The hotel allowed storage of luggage on our departure day. Despite being on the corner of two busy roads, there was minimal traffic noise. The beds were really comfortable and the kitchen had everything we need. We’ll be staying there many times on future visits.

We booked a standard room for three nights and on the surface it was reasonable value for money. The location is excellent being opposite the Skybus terminal. Trams at the door to take you anywhere and the staff were relatively friendly. However.......... On day 1 the electricity suddenly went off in our room after the kettle switched off. It eventually came back on after five or ten minutes and I called reception to ask if it was just our room or throughout the hotel. It turned out it was just our room and the response was let us know if it happens again. Over the course of our stay this happened intermittently and the response from reception was "we'll report it". On the second morning of our stay the power went of four times and again on the day we left. Each day the reception response was "sorry - we'll report it". The shower door needs to be closed to stop the steam setting off the fire alarm and on two occasions the power went off when we were in the shower, leaving the room pitch black. It was a very disappointing aspect of our stay that we were basically told to "suck it up" as no solution was offered such as the option to move to another room. Everything else was fine and I would stay at the hotel again but would insist on being moved immediately if this situation arose again.

Hotel was lovely and location is excellent but be aware rooms are tiny and can be noisy, the sink is in the main sleeping area not in the bathroom wealso had to go up and down stairs with our luggage to get to the correct lift to take us to our room so not ideal for older or less mobile visitors
