As a regular guest at this hotel, I have always appreciated the quality of service, but my latest experience has left me quite disappointed. Around 9 PM on the night of our stay, my wife and I contacted reception due to unsettling noises, including banging and cracking sounds, which were disturbing our peace. A staff member, who wore glasses, kindly came to our room to investigate. She suggested that the noises could be due to weather-related expansion or contraction of the building and advised us to record the sounds and bring them to the attention of reception. She informed us that maintenance would be available in the morning but no sooner be contacted us regarding the noise. Following this, the night manager reached out to us after the staff member had left, reiterating the advice to record the noise for further discussion with reception. Upon checking out at 12 PM the following day, we approached the reception to share our recording with the manager on duty. Unfortunately, the duty manager did not introduce herself and was unprofessional in her demeanor. She made accusations that we frequently seek compensation during our stays, which was both surprising and disappointing. Her tone was loud and aggressive, and she refused to discuss the matter privately, despite our request for a more discreet conversation. Additionally, her comments regarding our celebrations and no staff members want to serve us were insulting to our race, culture and customs, as we often choose to stay in hotels for special occasions. When we presented our video recordings as evidence of our concerns, she dismissed them without making an effort to listen. As a long-time Accor member, I have never encountered such humiliation or embarrassment in any establishment. While I am not seeking compensation from this incident, I believe we deserve a formal apology from the staff member involved, as her behaviour was unacceptable, particularly in front of other guests and staff.

The staff are friendly, chatty and cheerful. The rooms are small and rather ordinary. The views of the highways and water beyond are interesting. The TV did not work in the first room. It took the maintenance guy some hours to try and fix whatever the problem was, even bringing a TV from another room. Finally, they gave us a new room with a slight upgrade.

Ideal location. This hotel is close to everything. We walked everywhere. There are so many great places to at or just grab a drink in the area. The room was very clean as was the bathroom. The room was also really quiet, we couldn't hear the traffic outside at all. Check in was easy, Everything was very nice.

Novotel Melbourne South Wharf – Great Location, But Skip the Food

I recently stayed at the Novotel Melbourne South Wharf and found the hotel to be an excellent choice for its location. Situated right by the South Wharf shopping mall and waterfront, it’s perfect for exploring the area. The room was very clean, and the rate was fair, making it a good value for the price. Unfortunately, the food and beverage experience left much to be desired. The room service was disappointing—I ordered a hamburger, expecting a straightforward dish, but it was subpar and not even edible. The breakfast buffet didn’t fare much better, with food quality below standard and service that felt inattentive. While I’d recommend the hotel for its convenient location and reasonable pricing, I suggest skipping the on-site dining. Instead, take advantage of the numerous excellent F&B options just across the street in the shopping mall area or along the waterfront. These alternatives more than make up for the hotel's shortcomings in this department.

This was a great stay. Excellent location, terrific service from all staff before and during the stay and great facilities including the restaurant where we had a lovely meal. Room was very good, very clean and contained everything we needed, including a very comfortable bed. I would not hesitate to return or recommend.
