Lovely dining experience

Yuen was very attentive and gave fabulous service in the restaurant. Food was lovely as well. We had steak and gammon. The restaurant was quiet for a Saturday night but still had a great atmosphere and all food was served piping hot. Passion fruit martinis went down a treat too!

The interior of this hotel is surprisingly attractive, given that it’s located on a public car park with a KFC next door. I have stayed at a Holiday Inn in Portsmouth which was so unpleasant and expensive that in comparison and for the price I’d give the interior 5 stars. However I’ve given it 3 stars as the room on the second floor had lots of problems while we were there over Christmas. 1). The beds had sheets that didn’t fit the divan beds. You can buy deep fitted sheets for divans so that’s poor. The pillows were synthetic and lumpy and one of the duvets was lumpy. 2). The heating was on full blast which was too much for us so we turned down the thermostat. This didn’t work and so we had the air conditioning unit on full blast which was fine if you had the bed nearest to it, but not if you were by the radiator. There is too much furniture for such a small twin room so we moved a round table so as not to bump into it at night. We found crumbs under the table which was gross. Given that there is a pleasant lounge on the ground floor I fail to see why the need for an extra table and chair, a larger chair and a desk with a chair. If people need room service, the desk and an extra chair would have been enough. 3). The bathroom was not very clean on day one but the next two days the bathroom wasn’t cleaned at all and we had to get toilet rolls from reception. Also there was a plumbing problem and as a result we had hot water only and this also heated up the toilet water and caused a drip from the flusher. Whilst we should have been moved to another room, we were led to understand that other rooms were affected so we had to put up with it and get jugs of water from the bar to use to wash and make tea with. We did get some compensation. The bathroom door was difficult to open due to steam damage too. 4). We were in a classic room but even though it was one up from a standard room, there didn’t seem to be any difference. Had there been an upgrade on the web for a twin room we would have upgraded but no option showed on the web. Tea and coffee was available in the room but again we had to get extra milk and sugar from reception. In the corridor someone had spilt tea over the wall and there was a tray left outside the room for two days. 5). There is clearly a staff shortage at Christmas which meant the Spa and Pool were closed. Breakfast had to be eaten by 09:30am instead of 10am. They actually turned paying guests away from the breakfast room at 09:45am! I can’t believe half an hour really makes a lot of difference and at least they could have offered a continental breakfast in the bar next door for latecomers. I got the impression that staff came first not paying customers. Only one member of staff covered breakfast and oh no, on day two, two coffee machines broke down to add to the chaos. Where’s the maintenance in this hotel! On the plus side, the staff at reception, the bar and the breakfast room were very professional and friendly. Breakfast was excellent and I’ve been to five star joints. There was a good mix of hot and cold food and something for everyone. The fried eggs were replaced very quickly by the lovely chef. At dinner the restaurant was closed but the bar had comfortable tables and chairs and the food was very good. As the restaurant overlooks the car park, why haven’t they put some hedges outside to soften the place or is it controlled by the council? I’d like to mention two exceptional staff. Mahagamage at the bar who rather than have us order at the bar, came and took our order at our table unlike the last night, when we had to order at the bar. He was on his own and managed everything in such a calm manner and was so welcoming that he’d make a good manager. Also a shout out to Helen on our last day at breakfast who despite being rushed off her feet was fantastic at clearing away and getting people drinks from the bar due to the coffee meltdown and generally making people happy. Finally the management should take note that we were impressed by the decorations for Christmas which really was fabulous but need to sort out the staff ratio and get rid of some of their cleaners.

We had a wonderful experience. The lady Helen was wonderful at the restaurant , never met a lady that cool and happy doing her job. The rooms are of good size and the bed was comfortable.our children also enjoyed swimming in the swimming pool. I also observed the gym. It’s well equipped.

Well located for Telford Centre and heritage sites around Ironbridge. Bedrooms are not large but well appointed with comfortable beds. Staff are friendly and efficient. I appreciated the warm welcome at reception on arrival. Breakfast well cooked and good choice.
