Run down and disappointing

There is no place to park while checking in. You just have to set down in a keep clear zone and hope you don’t get towed or fined. When we arrived, there were already four cars lining the keep clear zone where reception is so I had to do multiple laps of the block. Reception told us to just “park wherever”. Once checked in, there was plenty of parking for guests and we never had any issues finding a parking space. The location of the resort is great. Very central to the main shops, restaurants, bars. The beach is less that 500 meters away and there are lots of touristy things to do in the immediate area. We stayed in a 3 bed, 2 bathroom apartment with a pool view. It had two queen beds and two single beds which worked for us (2 adults and 3 kids). The beds were rock hard with springs poking through so sleep wasn’t very restful. The general state of the room was pretty disgusting. There were stains on the curtains, carpets and walls. The artwork had tears in it. The balcony furniture was rusted and peeling. All of the furniture in our apartment was very old and cheap quality, beds, couches and dining chairs were uncomfortable. The wardrobes in each of the bedrooms had three hangers each and the master bedroom had no drawers at all to put clothes in. The appliances in the kitchen were very well worn and some well past any kind of useable state. For a room that was supposed to accommodate 6 people, there were two 2 seater couches which meant we couldn’t all sit down to watch TV at once. One of the couches was fine but the other was rock hard and not able to be sat on for any extended period. There were only 3 chairs on the balcony, so again only half our group could sit out there at any given time. The TV didn’t work, but maintenance came up within 20 minutes of reporting it and fixed it. The maintenance guy was amazing, in fact all the staff were great. Really friendly and helpful. There’s no room service, mini bar or in room food delivery. You could order limited food from reception, but you have to go down to collect it, so it was easier and cheaper to just go to Coles. The room has a full kitchen however, with no cleaning supplies actually using the kitchen involves purchasing all your own cleaning products. Housekeeping only comes once a week and they do a pretty ordinary job. The floor was sticky and there was a residue over everything they “cleaned”. They didn’t top up any of the supposedly “complimentary” things like tea, coffee or shampoo. I guess for $7000 I don’t expect to have to supply my own bin bags and dish soap, especially when you get fined for not cleaning up!! What I learnt while we were here is that all of the apartments are individually owned and Mantra just manages them. What this means is there is no consistency across any of the rooms. If the owner maintains the room and puts care into it, you might get a nice room, working appliances and modern fittings but, as in our case, if the owner doesn’t, you get a room that is run down with rock hard beds and which hasn’t had a coat of paint in more than a decade. The public areas of the resort appeared to be well maintained, clean and tidy. There was no rubbish, hazards or mess. There were plenty of chairs and sun lounges. Each of the outdoor pools had BBQ,s and plenty of tables and chairs. We stayed for a 10 day period and during that time, none of the spas were operational, the sauna was closed for maintenance and the theatre was closed. There are three pools, the beaches in the sky which is the big one, an indoor heated pool and another smaller outdoor pool. The indoor heated pool was quite small and was often over crowded, especially on days where the weather wasn’t that good. Given the size of the resort, the indoor pool is woefully inadequate. There really isn’t much for kids to do here. There is a really small and kind of pathetic playground suitable for really young kids only. The kids games room has about a dozen coin operated arcade games and a handful of claw type vending machines where the prizes had been in them so long they were faded beyond recognition. The games machines all needed maintenance as they tended to swallow the kids coins without registering a credit more often than not. There are no ball games allowed in the resort and we frequently heard kids getting told off for playing on the grassy areas despite not bothering anyone. Meanwhile, despite the resort having signs up everywhere saying there was to be no parties, several nights we witnessed rowdy drunk adults playing loud music in the pool areas driving other guests away and nothing was said. One final thing worth noting is that we received a notice that a mandatory Body Corp fire inspection would be taking place the following day and that if we weren’t home, we needed to arrange for a key to be left before 5pm the day before. First off, as a guest of a resort, this is not my issue to be dealing with. Secondly, notification was made by somebody slipping a piece of paper under our door while we were out. When they turned up the next day, early enough that my kids were still in bed, they just let themselves in and we had to stop them from going into the kids bedrooms. I understand fire inspections are important but this is not the way to go about it. These should be organised between guests and Mantra needs to take responsibility for it, not put this on guests. Would I stay here again? Honestly, probably not. The price point is just too high for what you get and that you can’t be sure what standard the room will be. We essentially paid for a 4 star prices and got a 2 star experience.

Big Disappointment

Let’s start with what was good: Location and views are this hotels best features. You are right in the middle of everything restaurants, cafes, short walk to the beach and cavill, our 3bdrm apartment had views of both the beach and surfers city. Rooms: this is the worst part. It was grubby it was outdated, the couches were so gross with stains and marks we didn’t sit on them but when my daughter tested it out the springs were all ruined. The floors were sticky and the rooms had a general yucky smell almost like sweat. The beds were very uncomfortable, we didn’t get one good night sleep in our 5 night stay, our queen bed was most certainly a double which is squishy for the average two adults. Thank god I brought my own pillow! The air conditioning doesn’t work well so we couldn’t get relief from the heatwave during our stay. The hallways and lifts are not air conditioned so it’s very hot and extremely muggy during the afternoons and so we’re our rooms as the air conditioning doesn’t was so weak the afternoons were hot. Facilities: Generally pretty good although the lagoon pool quickly over crowds and not much seating. Lap pool gets no sun. Parking came with our 3bdrm which was handy. Getting around the resort needs better signage because you can’t find things without a map. Service: other than a friendly smile when you check in and out that’s it. No new towels no beach towels like most other 4 star hotels, no room cleaning. This is not a 4 star hotel, it’s best described as a run down 3 star hotel that was great when it first opened as a 4 star, my husband happened to stay here years ago when opened and he said it hasn’t been updated since. Didn’t enjoy our stay sadly all I wanted the whole time was to change hotels. It was just a big ICK. It’s important to note lots of families stay here as it is affordable, I generally prefer higher class hotels and because it was 4 star that’s what I expected to get. That’s why it’s disappointing. It is good for families, just no longer a 4 star as it desperately needs upgrading.

Room without air-condition

We've paid for an Ocean view room and since we arrived the air-condition was not working and we kept complaining and what we received was a silly offer to partly refund and stay in a room without air-condition in this hot weather, they scam you by offering defective service and no one cares

Do not stay!!

Very disappointed with this apartment. Stayed 7 nights with discomfort…. Aircon not working for 7 days the suns heat beaming though glass like oven inside….technician come out couldn’t fix and never come back and reception didn’t reply with update. They just dropped of 3 fans and basically said deal with it…. Kitchen needs upgrading with missing utensils…. Fridge Brocken with missing middle shelf…. Fans not working in all bathrooms causing bad odours not hygienic….. Damage front door that needs urgent attention….. Bedroom door does not slide shut needs repair…… Rundown furniture including dining table you eat on….. Dirty smelly carpet though out with no vacuum provided….. Smelly Lift and lobby area always bad smell especially after wet day… The building is also quite old that can do with renovation damaged walls with defects. Overall good location close to amenities great view and good size pool and that’s about it, misleading advertising 4.5 stars l can honestly say it was 2 stars….

As smelly as it can get

Smelliest hotel and probably worst I have stayed at. I have stayed at backpackers and conditions were more comfortable than here. First the confusion when you park your car, which I’m sure everyone who stayed or will stay will go through. But the stench on my floor at least was unbearable. I had to hold my breath every time we went on the lift as the rubbish chute was right there in the open dirty and smelly as it could be. To make it better for us the chute backed into our room. It got smelly in the room too, and when mentioned they gave us a couple of towels and some spray and told us there was nothing they could do about it as they brought it up to body Corp and nothing was done. Funnily enough the day later we saw another lady getting a spray bottle too. Room was filthy too, very dated, carpet full of long hairs, remove controls filthy with years of grime, mould on the grout and silicone, it’s very dated. And I could go on forever.
