Comfortable but not really central

We booked this as part of a package deal and on ‘paper’ it looks like a good location, but it’s not very central. Parking is an issue in Brisbane so when you drive somewhere there is nowhere to park and you have to walk miles! So many of the eateries were either closed in the early part of the week or closed early even in peak holiday season.

Run down and overpriced

Unfortunately, we found The Johnson apartment to be quite run down, dark and relatively small compared to other alternatives, especially for the price. The rooms needed a good paint, carpets were dirty and the beds did not have any underlay or topper - just a sheet straight on the mattress. Further, there was mould in the bathroom and cleaners had to return twice in order to remove it properly. In terms of the common area/s, the pool area - chairs and cabanas were also tired. Overall, for a luxe hotel and price point, we had expected much better.

Fantastic Stay

We were upgraded to the Penthouse so our stay was phenomenal. Benefits of being a returning guest Platinum level Accor member I suppose . We like the location of the Johnson. Central Brisbane but still maintains a busy suburban outlook. Restaurants accessible . Easy access to motorways to visit family and friends and the theme parks. The pool is a very good feature at the Johnson. Nice setting and a decent size . Gym is also a reasonable size and fit for purpose . Staff are always really friendly - make us feel welcome and are very helpful. To be frank, I can’t fault the stay.

If your looking for a place to stay in Brisbane that's off the beaten track, and doesn't feel like a predictable franchise chain, Johnson is the hotel for you. Full of original art, modern design, and aesthetically pleasing all round. You can expect brilliant customer service from the staff, who go above and beyond to make sure your needs are taken care of. Infinity pool, and view over Spring Hill makes this a stand out.

Not our usual great experience

This was probably our sixth stay at The Johnson, a hotel we've previously raved about, but unfortunately this stay was disappointing. We stayed for 3 nights over Christmas. We were in room 519 and the room is in desperate need of maintenance. The shower head is broken, one of the bathroom sinks doesn't drain properly, the phone doesn't work at all and the air conditioning makes very strange noises that kept us awake at night. The carpet is stained and dirty, as are the curtains. There were also no pool towels in the room, nor any bathrobes. We asked about the phone and were told there was no one there who could fix it until December 27th. After 2 days of not having our room serviced, I enquired as to when this might be done, or had they stopped daily servicing? I was told that it was on request only. This would have been helpful to know when we had checked in! I asked for rubbish removal and fresh towels, which was actioned reasonably quickly. The pool area was very unkempt - damaged cushions and furniture and presentation of the area was poor. We've always really enjoyed the Johnson however it really seems to be in desperate need of some maintenance. We got the impression they were cost cutting, and our experience wasn't great. The staff we spoke to were lovely, and as helpful as they could be, they just seemed to very short staffed.
