We had an Army Reunion with around 55 friends....generally the 4 days went well, the staff were great and the functions we had there were very well received by our group. The food was delightful and they catered for things that cropped up unexpectedly really well. We will be back.

Great location - unhelpful elitist attitude from Management.

We have stayed at many Mantra hotels. Prior to booking our 2 night stay, at Tweed Heads, I rang and spoke to Duty Manager, Gordon. He was very helpful when I explained that I have back issues and require a supportive, non saggy mattress. I also followed up with emails regarding this request. I was reassured that they would do their best to help and if I had any issues with the bed to contact reception and they would do whatever they could to help even if that meant changing rooms or mattresses. Upon checking in I mentioned this again to Anesu on reception (Gordon was not on duty) who confirmed that there was a note on my booking regarding the bed. He reassured me that if the mattress was not comfortable I was to let them know and they would help to rectify the problem. As soon as we got to our room (a nice one bedroom apartment) I tried the bed immediately. Unfortunately, the mattress was old and very unsupportive and saggy. I rang reception and spoke to Anesu. I explained that I had an email trail requiring a comfortable mattress and that the one in the room was unsuitable and could he help? He went and checked with the Duty Manager. When Anesu returned to the phone he informed me that the Duty Manager said "this is what you will get when you stay at the Mantra, if you want a better mattress you need to pay more money and stay at The Sebel". "You can have a different topper on the bed if you want". How the heck does a different topper help the saggy mattress underneath it? I was shocked to say the least. So, obviously paying $350 per night does NOT entitle you to a comfortable bed!! If the room was much, much cheaper and 3 star I guess I could understand his attitude (maybe) but at $350 per night in a 4 star hotel surely you are entitled to a decent bed. I'm really disappointed in the elitist attitude of the staff. Warning: if you want a bed that doesn't cause back pain be prepared to pay over $500 a night at The Sebel as $350 seems to be for "the cheap seats" only. I'm bitterly disappointed in the Mantra over this. My husband ended up rotating the mattress himself to see if it made any difference. Unfortunately it did not. I tried to do the right thing, I rang and checked about the beds even before making the booking. As we'll be doing extensive travelling from next year, I had hoped to establish with one brand, Mantra, so I would know I was getting good service. How disappointing after our Tweed Heads stay and the arrogant attitude of Management.

Twin Towns has been my holiday destination since 1997 and it’s still got that magic! A few nights here and I’m recharged, relaxed, and reminded why I keep coming back. Perfect blend of nostalgia and modern comfort, with a view and vibe that’s hard to beat. If you want a holiday where the hardest decision is pool or beach – this is the place!

Thank you

I initially was booked to stay for 7 nights for work purposes, but due to unforeseen circumstances, had to depart early. The staff were more than accommodating in assisting me, nothing was to much to ask. This was my 2nd stay, it’s now my preferred accommodation whenever I need to be in the area.

Hi Andrew, Thank you so very much for this glowing review of your stay here with us at The Sebel Twin Towns Coolangatta. It is always a pleasure to receive positive feedback. When we and our friends checked in here, their suite was ready but not ours. So we took our bags up to their suite. It was newly renovated, nice modern appliances and a modern bath with frameless walk-in shower. We were looking forward to seeing the same when we got the keys to our suite (having paid for the exact same class of room). OMG…when we went up to our suite an hour or so later, we were literally stunned by what they’d put us into. It was a wheelchair suite with the toilet, shower and laundry machines all in one big open room with a plastic shower curtain. The fridge was at least 30 years old. What a dump! We were EXTREMELY angry that they’d tried to foist this suite onto us. We immediately marched straight down to reception and demanded that they give us a suite similar to our friends. After waiting for 25+ minutes while “we’ll see what we can do”, they did put us into another suite with a great ocean view. That suite was not as modern and clean as our friends, but after the almost-nightmare situation, we were fine with it. Our friends soon discovered that their suite looked out on the garbage dumpsters, so they requested a view suite next day and surprisingly were given a nice view suite with similar newly renovated features. The king bed was comfortable, so sleep quality was good. We prepared most of our own meals during the week here, and facilities were very much lacking for that. For example, something as simple as salt and pepper? You get the little paper packets like you get at McDonalds. Dish detergent? Little packets of liquid soap that is so weak it doesn’t even bubble up and get soapy. No paper towels; the cutting knives were absolutely as dull as a spoon, just brutal to try to cut bread or fruit. Exactly 4 forks, so we had to continually wash them. Our air conditioning started acting up on our 2nd last day, but they did come in on Sunday and get it reset and working again. Breakfast wasn’t included with our suite, and they wanted a pricey $31 pp. With a grocery store nearby, we did our own breakfasts for probably ¼ of that price. In North America, resorts often have BBQ’s for guests to use. This place says they do too, but they certainly aren’t the gas grill BBQ’s that we expected. They are just a large griddle without a lid…not great for doing steaks and certainly no good for things like ribs or chicken legs. No spices or condiments in the suite, so we had to buy all of that. I wonder if the cleaners will leave our spices for the next guest, or just toss it? The bathroom vanity was okay, enough room for the 2 of us. The shower is old, and the glass was filthy when we arrived in the suite (see picture). There are a mix of owners and guests in the building, and it seems to be a residence for many very old and wheelchair bound residents. The elevators are very slow, and many times we were faced with only 1 (out of 3) elevators working. If I’d known more about this place, I would have given it a pass for accommodation. I think we overpaid for this place, and I would not recommend it to others.

Good Afternoon Rod, Thank you for providing feedback on your stay, I'm sorry to hear that your self contained apartment did not meet your expectations, I will pass your comments on the management team and we will work to rectify the issues you have raised. Kind Regards Natasha Evans Front Office
