Friendly front desk, Greta location - but awful room

The front staff was amazing at this hotel. Very hospitable and helpful. The location is fantastic, too- especially if you are taking a snorkel or dive tour. Honestly, that’s where the kudos stop. The rooms are extremely basic, the mattress feels like it is 100 years old. I’m not even particularly picky about mattresses… But with theirs, you can actually feel the springs coming through. The towels are threadbare and there are no washcloths. The worst part of all is that the room smelled like Thai food in the afternoon and garlic bread in the evening. There must be some sort of air-conditioning/exhaust issue where smells from the restaurants on the first floor are being sucked into it. It really stinks. It made sick to my stomach and I worried about it making my clothes smell. I hated my stay.l and would not recommend this hotel.

Most frustrating award 2025

I stay in around 160 hotel nights a year and Mantra Esplanade Cairns has to be my most frustrating experience in the last 160. So many issue - too many to write about - but despite six requests to speak to duty manager this, or these, people never responded. As a platinum Accor I found this disappointing. When I requested receipt at checkout I was advised not possible but eventually sent a receipt for a stay five years earlier …. Enough said! Enormous effort to get receipt. Terrible service overall. Reasonable location. Hotel noisy.

No good for work related travel

If you are travelling for work probably best to avoid this hotel. Strangely no desk or chair to use a laptop on. When I asked if it was possible to get a small desk or chair, the answer was no. When I asked why there was no desk or chair, was told room was privately owned and that was their preference. Wasn't after a massive desk and comfy office chair, just a simple desk and chair like every other hotel on the planet.

Very comfortable, and central to everything. Clean, well maintained. Staff were all very helpful. Plenty of parking, unlike the Mantra Trilogy.

Well-located and spacious accommodation in Cairns

We enjoyed five nights in a one-bedroom city view apartment at the Mantra as part of a large family group. We arrived very early but Anita on the front desk was very helpful in making our apartment available as soon as possible. The apartment was much more spacious than we expected, with a massive separate bedroom plus large kitchen/dining/living space onto the small balcony. The facilities were more than sufficient for our stay and it was clean & tidy. The location is great, being right on the esplanade to easily walk to the local attractions and tours. We particularly enjoyed having the art galleries so close by. The swimming pool and spa were almost always in the shade and we rarely saw anyone using them. The spa was cold, which defeats the object of having one with many of our 17-strong group being very disappointed by this. Overall, it was great to have apartments in the same complex for our family trip and everyone was pleased with their apartments (with the two-bedroom ones being enormous). The location was ideal for us and, although very expensive over school holidays, we were all happy with our stay.
